LANE COLLEGE JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Food Service Worker Department: Dining Services Reports To: Director of Dining Services Classification: Non-Exempt Employment Status: Full-Time Position Summary The Food Service Worker supports the daily operation of Lane College’s dining services by assisting with food preparation, meal service, sanitation, cleaning, and customer service. This position helps ensure that meals are prepared and served safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established food safety standards. The Food Service Worker is expected to provide courteous and professional service to students, employees, guests, and members of the Lane College community while maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming dining environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Assist with the preparation, portioning, and serving of meals, beverages, and snacks. 2. Set up serving stations, dining areas, beverage stations, and food service equipment before each meal period. 3. Serve food to students, employees, and guests in a courteous, timely, and professional manner. 4. Follow established menus, portion-control guidelines, recipes, and food presentation standards. 5. Maintain appropriate food temperatures and follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations. 6. Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, cookware, trays, and food preparation equipment. 7. Clean and sanitize tables, counters, serving lines, floors, kitchen equipment, storage areas, and dining facilities. 8. Restock food, beverages, utensils, condiments, napkins, and other dining supplies as needed. 9. Receive, unpack, organize, and properly store food products and supplies. 10. Rotate food and supplies using appropriate inventory-control procedures, including the first-in, first-out method. 11. Properly label, date, cover, and store food items in accordance with food safety guidelines. 12. Dispose of trash, recycling, grease, and food waste according to established procedures. 13. Assist with catering services, special events, campus programs, and other food service activities as assigned. 14. Immediately report equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, food quality concerns, injuries, or sanitation issues to the supervisor. 15. Follow departmental procedures regarding personal hygiene, uniforms, protective equipment, and workplace safety. 16. Provide assistance to students and guests who have questions or concerns and refer complex matters to the appropriate supervisor. 17. Work cooperatively with cooks, supervisors, student workers, and other dining services employees. 18. Attend required departmental meetings, training sessions, and safety programs. 19. Maintain regular and dependable attendance and report to work on time. 20. Perform other duties as assigned to support the effective operation of Dining Services and Lane College.
