Job description

Job Description:

Pay Range: $63.58hr - $66.58hr
  • The Cyber Security Controls Assessor is responsible for performing comprehensive IT control assessments across multiple platforms, including applications, databases, operating systems, middleware, and monitoring tools.
  • This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards and industry frameworks by evaluating control effectiveness, identifying risks, and partnering with stakeholders to remediate deficiencies.
Requirement/Must Have:
  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Business, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of general IT experience, including IT security or IT risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience with NIST SP800-53 security controls catalog and/or Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
  • Strong understanding of application, database, network, and systems security.
  • Understanding of General Computing Controls (GCCs).
  • Experience using Excel worksheets, workbooks, and formulas.
  • Experience managing multiple projects with conflicting priorities.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • At least one current and valid certification from the following:

    Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA)
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
  • Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
Experience:
  • Experience performing IT compliance assessments across multi-platform environments.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting technical and policy documentation.
  • Experience validating control effectiveness through evidence review.
  • Experience identifying vulnerabilities, control gaps, and mitigation strategies.
  • Experience working with regulatory standards such as NIST SP800-53, SP800-115, SOX, and NERC CIP.
  • Utility industry experience preferred.
  • Big 4 consulting experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform multi-platform IT control assessments based on predefined objectives and test plans.
  • Conduct re-testing of remediated controls to validate effectiveness.
  • Obtain, review, and interpret evidence to validate control execution.
  • Execute and report IT compliance assessments aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Review IT policies, standards, and procedures to identify risk mitigation control points.
  • Identify risks associated with control deficiencies and support mitigation planning.
  • Partner with control owners to maintain up-to-date control documentation.
  • Work with stakeholders to address vulnerabilities and ensure sustainable remediation.
  • Support Compliance leadership as needed to meet organizational commitments.
  • Manage multiple concurrent assessments in a fast-paced environment.
Desired Certifications (Preferred):
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
  • ITIL Certification
  • Microsoft Certified Professional or Security Engineer (MCP, MCSE)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate or Professional (CCNA, CCNP)
  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to identify complex control gaps.
  • Strong understanding of auditing standards and frameworks such as COBIT and ITIL.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented with strong multitasking capability.
Qualification And Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of one active and valid professional certification required.
