Job Description
The General Maintenance Engineer is responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and plumbing duties throughout Fairmont Copley Plaza. This position plays an important role in maintaining the hotel’s guest rooms, public areas, and overall property in excellent working condition while ensuring that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and with minimal inconvenience to our guests. The General Maintenance Engineer works closely with the Engineering team to promptly address maintenance needs and support the smooth operation and upkeep of the property.
DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
ESSENTIAL
- Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service-oriented manner.
- Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Fairmont Standards, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
- Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include adhering to the proper dress code and wearing name tag while working.
- Comply at all times with Fairmont standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
- Make repairs to air conditioners – change filters, clean coils, replace blower motors, etc.
- Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems
- Take chiller readings and water samples
- Test water and record data.
- Replace TVs and any necessary assistance for the TV.
- Replace light switches, receptacles, and light bulbs.
- Perform furniture repairs
- Respond to room/hotel public area maintenance calls
- Replace pumps
- Make wall covering repairs
- Perform plumbing repairs – open clogged drains, change FET washers, stems seats, cartridges, handles, drain fittings, etc.
- Replace lavatories and toilets
- Paint designated areas.
- Repair and finish sheetrock.
- Repair kitchen equipment.
- Other duties as required.
The hourly start rate is USD $33.75
Qualifications
EDUCATION
- Trade school or college course work in related field helpful.
- At least one year of progressive experience in a hotel or a related field required.
- High school diploma preferred.
- Previous supervisory responsibility preferred.

- Long hours sometimes may be required.

- Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly.
- Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
- Must work well in stressful, high pressure situations.
- Must be effective at handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
OTHER ABILITIES, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE
- Training in a trade helpful: carpentry, HVAC, etc.
- Good plumbing skills required.
