Veterinary Assistant
Powell Animal Hospital
Powell, Tennessee
Full-Time: 4 ten hour shifts with rotating Saturdays
Compensation: Starting at $16 - $18/hour
Compensation negotiable based on credentials and experience with a hourly pay rate starting at $16 - $18/ hour. The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
About You
You’ll play an important role in pets’ lives by providing end-to-end care for our precious patients. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to support services including admitting and discharging patients.

Your Experience & Skills

  • 1-2 years of clinical experience
  • Strong technical skills including venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, radiographs, and lab work

You’re Willing And Able To

  • Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients.
  • With each hospital function, assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
  • Safely restrain patients and assist with exams and procedures
  • Obtain relevant health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts.
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed
  • Assist with hospitalized patient care, including monitoring and comfort measures
  • Assist in surgical and dental procedures, including dental radiographs
  • Maintain accurate and thorough medical records
  • Perform venipuncture and collect samples (blood, urine, fecal)
  • Perform intubation and IV catheter placement
  • Run in-house lab testing and prepare samples for reference labs
  • Take and assist with diagnostic radiographs (including positioning and safety)
  • Assist with surgical prep, sterile set-up, and patient recovery
  • Monitor anesthesia and maintain patient safety
  • Support post-operative care, including pain management, monitoring, and discharge education
  • Communicate clearly with clients regarding treatment plans, estimates, and next steps
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and restocking of exam rooms and treatment areas
  • Follow infection control and safety protocols
