Job Title: Lab Assistant IJob DescriptionThe Lab Assistant I works in a high-volume, production-based clinical laboratory environment and performs essential tasks that support accurate and timely diagnostic testing. In this role, you handle and prepare biological specimens, ensure proper operation of laboratory equipment, and follow established procedures to maintain safety, quality, and efficiency. Responsibilities
- Receive, sort, and organize incoming clinical laboratory specimens according to established protocols.
- Prepare specimens for testing and analysis, ensuring proper labeling, handling, and storage.
- Perform scanning and data entry of specimen and patient information with a high level of accuracy.
- Verify that laboratory equipment is functioning correctly and perform minor instrumentation maintenance as needed.
- Troubleshoot specimen-related issues and escalate concerns according to standard procedures.
- Replenish test bench and workstation supplies to support continuous workflow.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area in compliance with laboratory safety standards.
- Complete record logs and other administrative documentation accurately and on time.
- Follow all Standard Operating Procedures to uphold safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment to meet established turnaround times.
- Communicate effectively with team members and other laboratory staff to support smooth operations.
Essential Skills- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Comfort working with and handling biological specimens.
- Ability to accurately identify and verify specimens and associated information.
- Basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
- Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment while meeting turnaround time expectations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time as required by laboratory operations.
- Ability to pass a standardized color blindness test.
- Flexibility to work overtime as needed to support laboratory workload.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Previous experience in a medical, laboratory, or production environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and basic instrumentation maintenance is beneficial.
- Experience following Standard Operating Procedures in a regulated or quality-focused environment is an advantage.
- Demonstrated reliability and strong work ethic in a team-based setting.
- Interest in developing a long-term career in clinical laboratory science.
Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a high-volume, production-oriented clinical laboratory where you support a vital component of clinical lab science. You work with laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and computer systems to process and track specimens. The environment is fast paced and deadline driven, with a strong focus on safety, accuracy, and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures. You should expect to sit and/or stand for extended periods, handle biological specimens while following appropriate safety protocols, and occasionally work overtime based on operational needs. The laboratory maintains a clean, organized, and professional setting designed to support both high-quality testing and continuous employee development.

This is a Contract position based out of Agoura Hills, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.90 - $20.90/hr.
