Job Title: Revit Electrical Designer
Job Description
This role sits within an electrical design team that supports the electrical scope of a wide range of commercial and industrial building projects. You will help translate system design concepts into detailed layouts for critical facilities, contributing to efficient, reliable, and resilient power distribution systems. The position offers the opportunity to work with advanced BIM and electrical system modeling tools to deliver energy-efficient, high-quality building solutions and support large-scale, campus, and community power engineering projects.
Responsibilities
- Convert electrical system design concepts into specific layouts using information from the basis of design, senior and project designers, users, and other consultants.
- Interpret and apply information gathered from field surveys, site visits, and code research to develop accurate electrical design documents.
- Support the electrical scope of commercial and industrial building projects, including normal and backup power distribution and related systems.
- Assist in the design of electrical systems for critical facilities that require efficient, reliable, and closely coordinated power distribution.
- Incorporate renewable and distributed energy sources or microgrids into electrical system designs when applicable.
- Support redundant power system design strategies to sustain critical functions during utility outages and optimize alternate power capacity.
- Participate in fault current, arc flash, and selective coordination studies to inform distribution network arrangements and ensure consistent power delivery.
- Contribute to the design of protective relaying, distributed metering, lighting controls, high-efficiency illumination, and networked fire alarm systems.
- Use BIM and electrical system modeling tools to analyze design challenges and implement resilient power engineering solutions.
- Coordinate electrical layouts with other building systems, including plumbing, HVAC, process, mechanical, and fire protection, to ensure spatial and design compatibility.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable design codes, specification requirements, and life safety standards.
- Collaborate closely with project partners and multidisciplinary teams to achieve integrated, energy-efficient building solutions.
- Support documentation, revisions, and updates to drawings and models throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of experience or training in building systems design, preferably with an electrical scope.
- Proficiency in Revit MEP or AutoCAD for producing electrical design layouts and documentation.
- Understanding of building systems spatial requirements and design coordination across disciplines.
- Ability to interpret basis of design documents, field survey data, and code research for use in electrical system layouts.
- Knowledge of electrical building systems, including power distribution, lighting, and related controls.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when developing drawings and models.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with users, project partners, and design team members.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of experience in electrical design for building systems, particularly for commercial or industrial projects.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD required for more advanced roles, with Revit experience preferred.
- Understanding of applicable design codes and specification requirements for electrical systems.
- Familiarity with renewable and distributed energy systems, microgrids, and redundant power strategies is beneficial.
- Experience coordinating electrical designs with plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, process, and fire protection systems.
- Interest in technology, low-voltage systems, and advanced electrical design tools.
- Motivation to contribute to energy-efficient building solutions and environmentally responsible designs.
Work Environment
You will support an electrical design group focused on critical facilities and complex commercial and industrial projects. The team uses BIM and electrical system modeling tools extensively, with Revit MEP and AutoCAD as core platforms for design and coordination. For entry-level Designer I roles, work is performed on-site in the office every day to support collaboration and learning. For mid-level Designer II and above, a hybrid schedule may be available, typically involving three days in the office and two days working from home, depending on experience and demonstrated proficiency with Revit. The group has a collaborative, technology-forward culture and a strong interest in low-voltage and advanced electrical systems, fostering an environment that appeals to individuals who enjoy working with innovative tools and “tech geek” colleagues. The variety of industries and project types provides consistent workload and exposure to diverse building systems and design challenges.
