100% Remote Embedded Software Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking experienced Embedded Software Engineers to support the development of next-generation safety-critical avionics and flight control systems for a major aerospace and defense program. This role focuses on multicore processor architectures, embedded real-time software development, and certification-compliant software for advanced avionics applications.
Responsibilities
- Create, execute, and analyze SoC benchmarking procedures to assess performance and reliability.
- Configure, enable, and develop advanced SoC features on NXP S32 and Layerscape processor families, including S32G2 and LS1046A platforms.
- Design and implement multicore processing architectures while mitigating multi-core interference risks.
- Develop bare-metal software, processor bring-up solutions, bootloaders, and SMP/MCP operating system frameworks.
- Ensure deterministic software behavior in safety-critical avionics and flight control applications.
- Design and implement advanced communication protocols including Time Sensitive Networking (TSN), PCIe, and AFDX.
- Evaluate SoC platforms and develop technical reports assessing suitability for safety-critical avionics applications.
- Develop innovative test environments and verification methodologies supporting DO-178C Level A certification objectives.
- Perform advanced software and hardware analyses including Worst-Case Execution Time (WCET), Data and Control Coupling Coverage (DCCC), and timing, latency, and determinism assessments.
- Collaborate with FPGA and ASIC teams to evaluate interface performance, timing interactions, and system integration.
- Support software certification and compliance activities within highly regulated aerospace programs.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of low-level embedded engineering experience.
- Experience with flight controls, preferably within the last year.
- Experience with DO-178 compliance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with FPGA, ASIC interfaces, and timing interactions.
- Ability to perform complex analyses such as WCET and DCCC.
- Proficiency in Python, ARM DS IDE, and Dstream.

This is a Contract position based out of Phoenix, AZ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $58.00 - $78.00/hr.
