Job description

Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry is seeking applicants for faculty positions. Academically oriented dentists who are interested in teaching, learning and expanding their academic careers are welcomed to apply. The successful candidate must have administrative and clinical experience to transition to the position of Director of Predoctoral Oral Surgery Program within the next two years.

If you are currently a faculty at a dental school and you meet the qualifications of the positions listed below, please send a CV, names and contact information of five references, and a cover letter detailing your vision for the future, aspirations, achievements, and why you want to join the Temple Dental team. Please submit the documents to Associate Dean, Jo Ann Nyquist, jo.ann.nyquist@temple.edu.

Academic duties: Faculty are expected to teach in the predoctoral and postdoctoral programs and must also be competent to practice in their field and provide direct patient care daily as part of teaching. Temple's Dental model of education is based on an apprenticeship model where faculty are engaged as clinicians and educators, in provision of care with the students or residents.

Clinical practice for one day per week will be offered at the dental school or the new 12-chair fully equipped faculty practice located 3 miles south of the dental school in a new residential area of Philadelphia.

Requirements: All faculty must have a DMD/DDS from a CODA accredited school, a foreign equivalent may be considered, and must have or be able to obtain an unrestricted or restricted license to practice dentistry in Pennsylvania in addition to the below requirements. Applicants with experience in CODA accreditation will be preferred.

Applicants should have experience in clinical OMS (4- or 6- year program). A Certificate in OMS from a CODA accredited specialty program or equivalent international program and either certification by the American Board of OMS or eligibility for it or an equivalent international OMS certification. Applicants with equivalent international program or OMS non-categorical residency will be considered for pre-doctoral teaching.

The candidate must also be competent to provide direct patient care as an OMS specialist at the predoctoral, postdoctoral, sedation center, and affiliated hospitals (Temple University Hospital, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia). The faculty, if eligible, will practice for at least one day per week as part of their teaching responsibilities and supervise or provide care in the operating room or Temple University Hospital emergency and trauma clinics. Opportunities are available to provide care for patients with head and neck cancer, TMJ surgery, and orthographic surgery.

Academic culture: Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry has a horizontal open organizational structure where chairs, deans, and the Dean are accessible to faculty, staff, and students at any time to hear their input and address their aspirations. Additionally, the school offers several educational mini certificates offered by the Center for Academic Teaching.

Salary and compensation: Salaries are competitive with dental academic salaries in the Northeast. Faculty members have 20 days of paid vacation, and 3 days of personal time per year, a generous 403B contribution, Family Medical Leave, and Long-term disability benefits. Medical and dental insurance are offered at discounted premiums compared with market cost. Faculty members who practice receive at least one third of the net revenues. Support for attending at least one national professional meeting per year and faculty will be supported for presenting at additional meetings.

Respect for all based on merit and qualifications

Temple University welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply. Temple University bases its hiring decision or qualifications and experiences.
