Job description

Job Title: Material Designer II / Training Footwear
Months Contract
Location: Beaverton OR PURPOSE:
  • Intermediate Material Designer
  • Implement and execute design solutions
  • Deliver materials vision and execute seasonal projects aligned to creative direction and project briefs
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Create original product designs or refresh existing products with supervision from Design leadership
  • Understand the fundamentals of the design creative process, including exploration, receiving critical feedback, and driving design changes
  • Understand the full creative process (design process, material briefs, tech pack creation and handoff precision, development, factory communication, and redlining)
  • Participate in communication and presentation of design concepts to internal and external audiences
  • Collaborate and build strong interpersonal connections with Design and adjacent functions

  • BA / BFA / MA / MFA preferred
  • Associate degree preferred
EXPERIENCE:
  • Preferred design experience: – years
  • Understanding of creative culture
SKILLS:
  • Strong digital design acumen (Adobe Creative Suite required)
  • Preferred experience with advanced digital tools / D skills
  • Proven design capabilities
  • Understanding of the creative process
  • Knowledge of manufacturing (“make”) and impact of material choices
  • Basic understanding of material types
GENERAL INFORMATION (Client):
  • Location / Time Zone: PHK – Not open to relocation
  • Reason for Opening: Capability Building (Project Support)
  • Expected Contract Length: Weeks from start date
  • Client Organization: Global Design Training
  • Team Details: Training Footwear & Apparel Expression Design

DESIRED CANDIDATE PROFILE:
  • Minimum Experience: + years in Performance Footwear Materials Design
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Must-Have Skills:
  • Strong portfolio including footwear (must include products that have gone to market / real-world consumer experience)
  • Experience working on seasonal collections and mini collections
  • Exposure to athlete insights / focus groups
  • Strong design mindset with ability to translate material concepts from simple to complex expressions

Nice-to-Have Skills:
  • Experience with performance materials such as foams, mesh, TPU, elastics, synthetics, and prints
  • Experience working with material libraries and exploring existing materials
  • Collaboration experience with Lead Designers, Color Designers, Product Management, and Footwear Developers
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Adobe Creative Suite required
  • Preferred exposure to advanced design / D tools

PREFERRED BACKGROUND:
  • Previous Client / industry experience preferred.
