Job Summary:
The pantry cook plays a vital role in the kitchen by preparing salads, appetizers, cold dishes, and fried items. This position requires organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Food Preparation:
- Prepare a variety of cold dishes, including salads, charcuterie, and appetizers.
- Wash, peel, chop, and cut vegetables and fruits as needed while displaying excellent knife skills.
- Assist in the preparation of sauces, dressings, and dips.
2. Inventory Management:
- Maintain an organized pantry and refrigeration system.
- Monitor the freshness of ingredients and rotate stock to prevent spoilage.
- Assist in ordering supplies and maintaining inventory levels.
3. Quality Control:
- Ensure all food items are prepared according to recipes and presentation standards.
- Conduct taste tests and adjust flavors as necessary.
4. Sanitation and Safety:
- Follow proper food safety practices to ensure cleanliness and sanitation in food handling.
- Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment regularly.
5. Collaboration:
- Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations and timely service.
- Communicate effectively with team members and chefs regarding prep needs and kitchen flow.
6. Additional Duties:
- Assist in other areas of the kitchen as needed, including cooking hot dishes during busy service times.
- Participate in training and development of new staff members.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a professional kitchen, preferably in a pantry or cold kitchen role.
- Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic knife skills and knowledge of cooking techniques.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs).
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
