The Human Resources Generalist manages the full spectrum of HR functions, including recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, and compliance. This role supports both office and field employees, ensuring consistent application of HR policies, a positive workplace culture, and adherence to employment laws. The Human Resources Generalist partners closely with leadership and cross-functional teams to align HR practices with organizational goals and to provide proactive, hands-on support to employees at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle recruiting, including workforce planning, job posting, candidate sourcing, screening, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters, addressing workplace concerns, disciplinary actions, performance reviews, and policy interpretation in a fair and consistent manner.
• Coordinate benefits administration, including enrollments, changes, and inquiries, while maintaining accurate employee records, attendance tracking, PTO management, and HR documentation.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and maintain audit-ready personnel files and HR records.
• Administer workers’ compensation claims, unemployment claims, employment documentation, and related compliance requirements in a timely and accurate manner.
• Develop, implement, communicate, and maintain HR policies and procedures, including updates to the employee handbook.
• Plan and coordinate employee engagement initiatives such as recognition programs, team events, milestone celebrations, and other culture-building activities.
• Build strong relationships with employees through regular communication, support, and field visits to understand and address their needs.
• Coordinate workplace safety training, track certifications, manage compliance reporting, and oversee drug-testing programs, PPE management, and safety documentation.
• Support leadership with workforce planning, succession planning, employee development initiatives, and organizational communication.
• Coordinate employee travel arrangements and related logistics as needed to support business operations.
• Provide general administrative support, maintain office organization, and assist with daily operational needs to ensure smooth HR and office functions.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership, finance, operations, and project teams to support organizational goals and drive HR-related initiatives.

Essential Skills

• Fluent in English and Spanish, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate clearly across diverse employee groups.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or a minimum of three years of experience in a comprehensive HR role.
• Strong knowledge of recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, and employment law compliance.
• Experience using HRIS platforms to manage employee data and HR processes.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport at all levels.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable interacting with employees in both office and field environments, adapting communication style as needed.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for occasional site visits and regional travel.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with safety programs, safety training coordination, workers’ compensation administration, and compliance documentation is preferred.
• Experience supporting construction, manufacturing, or other field-based workforces is preferred.
• Professional HR certification, such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP, is a plus but not required.

Work Environment

The Human Resources Generalist works in a dynamic environment that supports both office-based and field-based employees. The role involves regular use of HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office applications to manage employee information, documentation, and reporting. The position requires occasional regional travel and site visits, so the HR Generalist should be comfortable working in both traditional office settings and field locations such as construction or manufacturing sites. The work schedule typically follows standard business hours, with flexibility as needed to support recruiting activities, employee meetings, and training sessions. The environment emphasizes collaboration with leadership, finance, operations, and project teams, and promotes a culture of engagement, recognition, and continuous improvement.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fargo, ND.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.44 - $36.06/hr.
