The Work – How You Will Contribute

In alignment with Wallick’s Mission and Values, the Data Engineer will support the Director of Business Intelligence & Analytics to manage and evolve our enterprise data ecosystem. Our core infrastructure is established within Microsoft Fabric, providing a modern foundation for you to build upon.

As a key builder on a lean team, you will be responsible for maintaining this environment while being afforded the unique opportunity to collaboratively enhance and grow it to meet the future needs of our business. We are looking for a resourceful problem-solver with the ingenuity to build lean, sustainable systems. You thrive on finding the most effective path to a solution, ensuring our infrastructure remains agile and easy to maintain as we grow. You won’t just be following a blueprint; you will be empowered to design and incrementally scale an affordable infrastructure; essentially building a world in which you want to work.

This is a foundational role ideal for an early-career professional with a "roll-up-your-sleeves" attitude. If you are motivated to take initiative, gain critical high-level skills, and see your fingerprints on the organization’s long-term success, this role offers the perfect platform for your growth.

Qualifications Required:
  • Experience: Typically, 1–3 years of experience in data engineering or a highly technical data analytics role
  • Technical Core: Proficiency in SQL and Python (specifically for data manipulation and transformation) is required
  • Ecosystem Knowledge: Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Snowflake, or Databricks)
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • The "Ingenuity" Factor: Demonstrated ability to self-teach new technologies and a proactive approach to solving technical hurdles with lean, sustainable solutions

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Infrastructure Maintenance: Manage and monitor the existing Microsoft Fabric environment, ensuring high availability and performance of the data ecosystem
  • Pipeline Engineering: Develop and maintain end-to-end ETL/ELT flows (using Data Factory, Notebooks, and Lakehouses) to ensure data is accurate, timely, and analysis ready
  • Incremental Scaling: Collaboratively design and implement enhancements to the data infrastructure, focusing on creating affordable and maintainable solutions that meet evolving business needs
  • Data Modeling: Partner with data analysts to structure and optimize datasets, ensuring they support strategic decision-making and business insights
  • Documentation & Governance: Maintain clear documentation of data lineages and system workflows to ensure the infrastructure remains transparent and scalable for future team members
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities to streamline processes or reduce system complexity, applying ingenuity to deliver high-value results
