Experienced Bedbound Client Caregiver Needed in Nashville, Tennessee

Location: Nashville, Tennessee
Schedule: Day and night shifts available

We are seeking experienced, attentive and dependable caregivers to support a bedbound client in Nashville. This client requires hands-on assistance with personal care, repositioning, toileting, incontinence care, hygiene and other activities of daily living.

Both day and night shifts are available. Exact shift times, lengths and available days will depend on the client’s care plan and current scheduling needs.

The ideal caregiver will understand that caring for a bedbound client requires patience, attention to detail, physical capability and a strong commitment to protecting the client’s comfort, privacy, dignity and safety.

Required Caregiving Experience

Applicants must have direct professional experience caring for clients who are bedbound or require extensive hands-on assistance.

Applicants should be experienced with:

• Bed baths and personal hygiene

• Toileting and incontinence care

• Perineal care

• Changing protective undergarments

• Dressing and grooming

• Oral care

• Bed mobility and repositioning

• Pressure relief and comfort measures

• Changing bed linens with the client in bed

• Meal preparation and feeding assistance

• Hydration reminders and monitoring

• Skin observation

• Safe body mechanics

• Fall prevention and safety monitoring

• Supporting clients with limited or no independent mobility

• Following written care plans

• Accurately documenting completed care

Experience using a gait belt, Hoyer lift or other approved transfer equipment is strongly preferred. Caregivers may only use equipment after completing required training and receiving authorization.

Personal Care Responsibilities

The selected caregivers may be responsible for providing complete assistance with activities of daily living, including:

• Providing bed baths or other approved bathing assistance

• Assisting with personal hygiene

• Providing respectful toileting and incontinence care

• Changing protective undergarments as needed

• Completing perineal care after toileting or incontinence episodes

• Assisting with dressing and undressing

• Providing grooming, hair care and oral care

• Maintaining clean, dry and comfortable bedding

• Changing linens when soiled or according to the care plan

• Keeping the client’s immediate care area clean and organized

• Protecting the client’s privacy and dignity throughout all personal care

Caregivers must communicate respectfully, explain care before beginning and encourage the client to participate to the extent safely possible.

Repositioning and Bed Mobility

Because the client is bedbound, proper repositioning and comfort monitoring are essential parts of the assignment.

Responsibilities may include:

• Repositioning the client according to the approved care plan

• Assisting the client from side to side in bed

• Using pillows or approved positioning supports

• Helping maintain safe and comfortable body alignment

• Monitoring for redness, swelling, bruising or skin concerns

• Keeping bedding clean, dry and free from wrinkles

• Reporting pain or discomfort during movement

• Using approved body mechanics to protect both the client and caregiver

• Requesting assistance when repositioning cannot be completed safely

Caregivers must never pull, drag or reposition the client in an unsafe manner.

Any redness, skin breakdown, open area, swelling, bruising, unusual warmth, pain or other concern must be reported to the Helping Hearts office immediately and documented according to company procedures.

Transfers and Mobility Equipment

Although the client is bedbound, some assignments may require transfers or the use of approved mobility equipment according to the care plan.

Responsibilities may include:

• Assisting with bed mobility

• Helping the client move between the bed and an approved chair or wheelchair

• Using a gait belt when directed

• Assisting with safe positioning in a wheelchair

• Using a mechanical or Hoyer lift when required

• Following all one-person or two-person assistance requirements

• Checking equipment before use

• Following all transfer and fall prevention instructions

• Requesting assistance when a transfer cannot be completed safely

Caregivers must never attempt an unsafe transfer or use a Hoyer lift, mechanical lift, gait belt or other equipment without the required knowledge, training and authorization.

Meal, Hydration and Household Support

Depending on the care plan, caregivers may also be responsible for:

• Preparing appropriate meals and snacks

• Assisting with feeding when required

• Encouraging regular fluid intake

• Observing and documenting food and fluid intake

• Following dietary instructions and client preferences

• Washing dishes and cleaning the meal preparation area

• Completing light housekeeping

• Washing and folding the client’s laundry

• Changing bed linens

• Removing trash

• Organizing care supplies

• Keeping the client’s immediate environment clean and free from safety hazards

Caregivers must immediately report difficulty swallowing, coughing during meals, refusal to eat or drink, vomiting or other significant concerns.

Non-Medical Health Support

Helping Hearts provides non-medical personal support. Caregivers must remain within their authorized responsibilities and follow the client’s approved care plan.

Responsibilities may include:

• Providing medication reminders

• Assisting with approved blood glucose monitoring when included in the care plan

• Documenting readings when required

• Observing food and fluid intake

• Monitoring the client’s physical, emotional and behavioral condition

• Reporting pain, swelling, bruising, redness or skin concerns

• Reporting changes in breathing, alertness, appetite, mobility or behavior

• Following established emergency and office notification procedures

• Completing accurate electronic documentation during every shift

Caregivers must immediately contact the Helping Hearts office regarding any significant change in the client’s condition. Caregivers must not assume that another person has already reported the concern.

Day Shift Responsibilities

Day shift responsibilities may include:

• Assisting with the client’s morning routine

• Providing a bed bath and personal hygiene

• Assisting with dressing and grooming

• Providing toileting and incontinence care

• Repositioning the client according to the care plan

• Preparing meals and assisting with feeding

• Encouraging hydration

• Changing linens and completing laundry

• Completing light housekeeping

• Providing companionship and meaningful engagement

• Monitoring the client’s condition and comfort

• Completing required documentation in real time

Day shift caregivers must remain attentive and actively complete all responsibilities listed in the client’s care plan.

Night Shift Responsibilities

Night shift caregivers must remain fully awake, alert and attentive throughout the entire shift.

Nighttime responsibilities may include:

• Completing scheduled safety and comfort checks

• Repositioning the client according to the care plan

• Providing toileting and incontinence care

• Changing protective undergarments and soiled linens

• Monitoring the client’s breathing, comfort and overall condition

• Providing medication reminders when scheduled and authorized

• Keeping the client’s immediate environment clean and safe

• Completing approved nighttime household responsibilities

• Responding immediately when the client needs assistance

• Preparing the client and care environment for the morning routine

• Documenting all care, observations and concerns in real time

Sleeping, napping, dozing, lying down to rest or closing your eyes for extended periods is strictly prohibited, even when the client is sleeping.

Failure to remain awake and attentive may result in immediate removal from the assignment and additional corrective action, up to and including termination.

Physical Requirements

Caring for a bedbound client can be physically demanding. Applicants must be able to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the position, with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Physical responsibilities may include:

• Standing, walking or sitting for extended periods

• Frequently bending, reaching, turning and twisting

• Kneeling or squatting when necessary

• Assisting with bed mobility and repositioning

• Supporting the client’s body safely during personal care

• Changing bed linens while the client remains in bed

• Pushing or maneuvering a wheelchair

• Using approved transfer equipment

• Handling laundry, household supplies and care equipment

• Responding promptly during emergencies or changes in condition

• Remaining awake and attentive throughout night shifts

Client Environment

Care will be provided in a client setting in Nashville, Tennessee.

Applicants should understand that:

• Family members or other approved individuals may be present.

• Approved safety cameras or monitoring equipment may be present.

• Caregivers must not move, unplug, cover or interfere with safety equipment.

• Caregivers must maintain client confidentiality.

• Caregivers must respect the client’s home, belongings, privacy and preferences.

• Caregivers must follow all household, care plan and safety requirements.

• Caregivers must disclose pet allergies, smoke sensitivities or other environmental restrictions before accepting the assignment.

• Transportation and parking conditions may vary by location.

• Unauthorized visitors, children and pets are not permitted during shifts.

Schedule and Assignment Disclaimer

Day and night shifts are available. However, specific hours and assignments depend on:

• The client’s current care needs

• The requested schedule

• Caregiver experience and qualifications

• Caregiver availability

• Assignment compatibility

• The client’s location

• Transportation and travel distance

• Client and family preferences

• Changes in the client’s condition or service needs

Full-time, part-time or PRN status does not guarantee a particular schedule or number of weekly hours. Client schedules may increase, decrease, change or end based on the client’s needs and preferences.

Applicants must provide their complete availability and clearly state whether they are available for day shifts, night shifts, weekends and short-notice coverage.

Once a caregiver accepts an assignment, dependable attendance and completion of the entire scheduled shift are required.

Caregivers must never leave the client before the scheduled end of the shift without authorization from the Helping Hearts office.

Employment Qualifications

Applicants must:

• Be at least 18 years old.

• Possess a high school diploma, GED or equivalent.

• Have professional caregiving, personal care, home care or related experience.

• Have direct experience supporting a bedbound client.

• Demonstrate compassion, patience, professionalism and dependability.

• Be comfortable providing complete personal care.

• Be experienced with toileting and incontinence care.

• Be able to reposition and assist the client safely.

• Follow written care plans and verbal office instructions.

• Communicate professionally with the client, family and office staff.

• Complete accurate electronic documentation during every shift.

• Have reliable access to a smartphone.

• Maintain client confidentiality.

• Remain attentive and awake throughout every assigned shift.

• Follow all attendance, call-off, confirmation, clock-in and clock-out requirements.

• Safely perform the essential responsibilities of the assignment.

• Complete all required orientation, training and assignment-specific instruction.

• Immediately report changes in condition, incidents, injuries and safety concerns.

Transportation Requirements

Applicants must have:

• A valid driver’s license

• Active automobile insurance

• Reliable personal transportation

• An acceptable driving record

• The ability to travel consistently to the client’s Nashville location

• The ability to transport the client when required and authorized

Caregivers must immediately report any change affecting their driver’s license, insurance, vehicle availability or ability to travel to the client safely.

Background and Screening Requirements

Applicants must:

• Complete a comprehensive background check covering up to 15 years, where legally permitted.

• Complete required abuse, neglect and sex offender registry checks.

• Complete a pre-employment drug screening when applicable.

• Participate in random drug screening when required by company policy.

• Provide complete and accurate application information.

• Report any criminal charge or legal change that may affect their ability to provide safe care.

• Have no disqualifying history related to abuse, neglect, exploitation, theft, fraud, violence, weapons or other offenses that would prevent safe employment, subject to applicable laws and individual review.

All employment offers are contingent upon satisfactory completion of required screenings, reference checks, employment verifications and the onboarding process.

• A valid and current driver’s license

• A Social Security card

• Any additional state, client or assignment-specific documentation requested by Helping Hearts

Applicants must also provide:

• A complete five-year employment history

• Five professional references

• Current contact information for all references

• No friends or family members as professional references

• Required payroll and tax information

• Complete and accurate application information

Digital screenshots, photographs displayed on a telephone, expired documents or unreadable copies may not be accepted for company verification requirements.

Applicants who do not have the required physical documents available may have their appointment rescheduled until the required documents can be presented.

For privacy and identity protection, applicants should not text or email photographs of their Social Security card, birth certificate or other sensitive identity documents.

For federal Form I-9 verification, applicants may present any acceptable document or combination of documents authorized under federal law. Helping Hearts will not require a particular Form I-9 document when another legally acceptable option is provided.

Attendance and Communication Expectations

Caregivers must:

• Arrive on time for every scheduled shift.

• Confirm assignments according to company procedures.

• Maintain reliable telephone communication with the office.

• Respond promptly to scheduling communications.

• Notify the office immediately if an emergency affects their ability to report to work.

• Follow all attendance and call-off procedures.

• Remain at the client’s location until the scheduled end of the shift or until properly relieved.

• Never leave the client unattended when supervision is required.

• Clock in and out from the approved client location.

• Accurately document all services provided.

• Notify the office if the client or family asks them to arrive late, leave early or change the scheduled hours.

Professional Appearance and Uniform

Caregivers must arrive clean, prepared and professionally dressed.

The required uniform includes:

• Solid navy-blue scrubs

• Closed-toe and closed-heel shoes

• Clean and professional appearance

• Hair secured when necessary for safety

• No strong fragrances

• Appropriate personal hygiene

• Required personal protective equipment when applicable

Caregivers must maintain the required professional appearance throughout every shift.
