Operating Room Attendant
The Operating Room (OR) Attendant supports professional staff in caring for the surgical patient. This support is met through the cleaning of the operating room suites between surgical procedures. OR Attendants will support anesthesia staff both in the operating room setting as well as ancillary departments by ensuring adequate stocking of anesthesia supplies in medication carts, the cleaning of anesthesia machines, and the transportation of anesthesia machines and carts. OR attendants will be asked to transport specimens and blood products to and from the lab as well as ensure proper stocking of various formalin containers used for specimen handling and transport. The OR attendant will assist in the positioning of surgical patients with the guidance of professional OR staff. The OR attendant will help prepare the operating room suite by ensuring the proper equipment is available in the room for the surgical procedure.
Cleans Operating Rooms after each case and other areas as needed-50% Cleans Operating Rooms with special technique after infectious case. Cleans pails and mops according to procedure. Cleans furniture and equipment after each case and prepares room for next case. Cleans stretchers/cribs after use and locates the appropriate transport outside of procedure rooms.
Assists with lifting, moving, and positioning patients-10%
Transports and maintains a record of specimens sent to the laboratory for analysis-10% Transports blood product per policy.
Processes equipment through cleaning and storing-10% Checks and reports defective instruments and equipment.
Reorders and restocks supplies in proper areas when delivered-10% May order and maintain stock supplies of linens, solutions, sets, sutures, needles, pharmacy supplies, etc. Maintains stationery and supply scrub areas. Fills soap dispensers and maintains supply of scrub brushes and masks as needed. Stocks linen supplies in the Operating Rooms and lounges. Cleans all cabinets in the work room areas. Sets up and cleans cast cart and assists with procedures -2% Goes on errands to other departments as needed-5% Performs other job-related duties as assigned-3%
Education and/or Experience Required:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Two years of Environmental Services and/or Operating Room experience.
License and/or Certification Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 30-days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Maintains clean environment and equipment in the Operating Room area and orders and maintains supplies and equipment.
- Provides assistance and support to clinical staff as needed.
