Junior Underwriter
The Junior Underwriter role at Berkley Construction Solutions is an early-career underwriting position responsible for supporting the evaluation, selection, and pricing of excess casualty construction risks using BCS's advanced underwriting systems, data platforms, and AI-enabled decision support tools. This role focuses on developing strong underwriting judgment while leveraging modern technology to accelerate submission intake, improve data quality, and support consistent, guideline-driven underwriting decisions. The Junior Underwriter works within defined authority levels and under the guidance of underwriting management, while gaining hands-on experience with BCS's underwriting workflows, analytics, and automation capabilities.
Key functions include but are not limited to:
- Evaluate new and renewal excess casualty construction submissions using BCS's underwriting systems, workflow tools, and integrated data sources
- Leverage AI-enabled submission intake, data enrichment, and risk scoring tools to support underwriting analysis and decision-making
- Review system-generated insights, alerts, and data outputs to validate risk information and identify items requiring underwriting judgment
- Prepare underwriting recommendations, pricing inputs, and coverage terms within established guidelines and authority
- Support efficient quote-to-bind execution by utilizing intuitive, technology-driven underwriting workflows
- Maintain accurate underwriting files and documentation within core underwriting and analytics platforms
- Collaborate with Operations, Technology, Claims, and Finance teams to ensure data accuracy and workflow adherence
- Adhere to underwriting governance, authority structures, and system controls designed to ensure consistency and compliance
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback on underwriting tools and processes
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required
- 03 years of related underwriting, insurance, or financial services experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Foundational understanding of commercial underwriting principles and risk evaluation
- Strong comfort working in technology-enabled underwriting environments
- Ability to interpret and apply system-generated data, analytics, and AI-driven insights
- Demonstrated aptitude for learning underwriting concepts, systems, workflows, and automation tools
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Interest in developing expertise in excess casualty and construction underwriting
- Progress toward insurance designations (AU, CPCU) preferred but not required
- Ability to travel 20%
