Job description

HR Generalist

Join a mission-driven nonprofit as part of a collaborative, six-member HR team!

This role is perfect for an experienced HR professional with direct California HR experience who loves being hands-on in employee relations, brings fresh ideas to the table, and values working closely with a supportive team that learns and grows together. The position is hybrid and requires on 2-3 on-site days each week. We invest in your professional growth with paid HR certification programs, plus membership and annual conference attendance for the HR professional association of your choice.

In this role, you'll partner directly with assigned departments, providing guidance and support across the full spectrum of HR functions; with a strong focus on employee relations. As part of a team, you'll manage key HR programs, including compensation, benefits, recruitment, and performance. The position requires onsite work a minimum of three days per week.

You'll succeed by building strong partnerships across the organization and consistently finding ways to provide value-add HR services to our employees.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct regular meetings with respective business units and line management, to provide consultative HR guidance and policy interpretation.
  • Provide day-to-day employee relations and performance management guidance to line management to improve work relationships and increase productivity and retention.
  • Manage and mediate moderately complex employee relations issues.
  • Provide support to managers to improve work relationships and increase productivity and retention.
  • Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with the HR team to develop solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the human resources department to develop policies, programs, and solutions.
  • Coordinate compensation terms for new hires, promotions, and transfers.
  • Provide guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning and recruitment.
  • Assist in annual performance review process, administration of health and welfare plan enrollments and related administrative updates.
  • Participate in the planning and development of HR department initiatives.
  • Assist Managers with recruitment and interview process.
  • Assist international employees with visa requirements.
  • Schedule and conduct new employee orientation.
  • Conduct records audits and reporting.
  • Support Employee Wellness initiatives including planning and organizing activities.
  • Complete other duties and related projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to perform the duties described above.
  • Related BS/BA degree or equivalent level/years of training and experience.
  • Five or more years of direct experience in Human Resources, California based experience required
  • Progressive HR work experience with a background in Health Care or Social Services Non-profit setting highly desired
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to prioritize work to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience utilizing HRIS and ATS/ talent management systems.
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate well with people of diverse cultural professional and experiential backgrounds.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships as part of a multi-departmental team.
