FCI Terminal Island
The Federal Correctional Institution, Terminal Island (FCI Terminal Island) is a low-security United States federal prison for male inmates in California. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. FCI Terminal Island is located at the entrance to Los Angeles Harbor, between San Pedro and Long Beach.
Schedule
The work schedule shall not exceed 30 sessions per week whereby one session equals one hour of service. The weekly schedule will normally consist of six, (1) hour sessions per day, Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays). These hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the institution. The schedule shall not normally exceed 30 hours per week.
Requirements (include but are not limited)
- Organize, schedule, and perform laboratory studies, specimen collection and process within the Health Service Unit.
- Prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported according to the BPA or BOP Reference Lab and document per Health Services Unit Laboratory Procedures. Ensure that lab requests are completed properly and all reports are returned from the laboratory, provider notified, log results in as received, follow up appropriately, and upload or scan results in lab and medical record.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services Manual and Unit Procedures necessary to accomplish the mission described herein, ensuring that the Laboratory Procedure Manual is updated accordingly.
- Assist the Health Service Administrator (HSA) or his/her designee in the coordination of BOP and Contract Reference Lab contact, CLIA re-certification, maintenance of equipment and notification of needed supplies.
- Assist the HSA and Clinical Director with writing and implementing policies that deal with the laboratory program.
- Reviewing and complying with AAAHC, ACA, OSHA, Program Review, and other state and federal regulations.
- To maintain all quality assurance requirements for the laboratory.
Qualifications
- Must be a certified Phlebotomist.
- Must have and maintain a current, unencumbered license as a Phlebotomist in the state of California.
- Must have experience in a correctional setting including experience with specimen collection, packaging, and shipment to referral laboratories with knowledge of maintaining appropriate records.
- Must have and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA) or client (ARC).
