TITLE: Software Engineer, Trading Technology

TEAM: Investment Implementation & Trading Technology

LOCATION: Boston or Needham, MA

...........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

At Wellington Management, technology underpins how we invest and operate in global markets. Our Trading Technology team builds and supports the platform that enables investment and trading decisions to be executed reliably and at scale. You'll work on a platform that's proven and mission-critical, the kind of environment where thoughtful engineering has immediate, visible impact.

JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Software Engineer with a DevOps focus to join our Trading Platform Engineering team within Investment Implementation & Trading (IIT) Technology. In this position, you will help build, automate, and operate our trading platform. This role combines software engineering with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and production reliability. You’ll work closely with technology team members and business partners to deliver resilient systems and continuously improve how we build and run software.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and support components of Wellington’s trading platform in partnership with trading and technology teams, leveraging AI-assisted development tools to enhance productivity and code quality
  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable reliable and efficient software delivery, incorporating AI-assisted automation and validation
  • Develop infrastructure and automation in AWS using Infrastructure as Code, utilizing AI-assisted tooling to accelerate provisioning and configuration
  • Improve system reliability through monitoring, alerting, and operational best practices, applying AI-driven insights for observability and anomaly detection
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and contribute to continuous improvement, leveraging AI-assisted diagnostics and incident analysis
  • Partner with developers, QA, and architecture teams to ensure scalable, secure, and performant solutions, using AI tools to enhance collaboration and solution design
  • Contribute to engineering standards, including code quality, testing, and release practices, incorporating AI-assisted code reviews and test generation

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, or related roles
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python preferred)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and cloud-native concepts (compute, networking, IAM, logging/monitoring)
  • Proficiency with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions) and source control (Git)
  • Exposure to infrastructure automation and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Understanding of monitoring, logging, and production support practices
  • Experience with tools such as Jenkins, Elasticsearch, and Grafana (or comparable CI/observability tooling)
  • Hands-on experience in SQL or other relational database technologies is desirable
  • Experience in Cloud Ops and infrastructure automation (e.g., automated provisioning, configuration, and operational runbooks)
  • Working knowledge of reliability practices such as monitoring/alerting, incident response, and root-cause analysis in a production environment

Preferred Experience

These are qualifications that would be helpful for the position but are not firm requirements.

  • Experience with containerization (Docker, ECS) and microservices architectures
  • Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., Grafana, Elasticsearch)
  • Exposure to Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles
  • AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code or similar)

What We Value

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ownership mindset and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Interest in continuous learning and improving systems at scale.

Not sure you meet 100% of our qualifications? That’s ok. If you believe that you could excel in this role, we encourage you to apply and welcome a chance to review your background.
