Abbey Animal Hospital is looking for a dependable, compassionate, and motivated Veterinary Assistant to join our team.
We are a privately owned, established small-animal hospital that believes great veterinary medicine starts with taking the time to do things well. Our appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes so our doctors and team can educate clients, answer questions, and provide thoughtful, individualized care to every patient.
We are looking for someone who enjoys being part of a busy, collaborative hospital, takes pride in excellent patient care, communicates well, and is willing to jump in wherever the team needs help.
As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll work closely with our veterinarians and support team throughout the hospital. Responsibilities include:
Patient & Appointment Care
Assist veterinarians during wellness, sick, urgent-care, and follow-up appointments
Safely and compassionately restrain dogs and cats for examinations, diagnostics, and treatments
Help prepare patients and treatment areas before and during appointments
Monitor patient comfort and behavior and communicate concerns or changes to the veterinarian
Assist with nail trims, ear cleaning, anal gland expression, medication administration, and other treatments as directed
Care for hospitalized and day-admission patients, including feeding, walking, monitoring, cleaning, and carrying out assigned treatments
Help ensure patient treatments and services are completed and accurately documented
Maintain accurate patient information and assist with medical record documentation and invoicing
Diagnostics, Surgery & Dentistry
Assist with radiographs and diagnostic procedures
Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures
Assist with anesthesia setup and patient monitoring within your training and responsibilities
Assist veterinarians and the surgical team during procedures as needed
Assist with dental procedures and dental radiographs based on training and experience
Clean, package, sterilize, and properly store surgical and dental instruments
Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked treatment and procedural areas
Client Communication
Help clients feel welcomed, informed, and supported throughout their pet's visit
Reinforce veterinarian recommendations and accurately relay information provided by the medical team
Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients in person and by phone
Help educate clients about preventive care and their pet's health within the scope of the Veterinary Assistant role
Assist with patient admission and discharge as needed
Hospital & Team Support
Maintain a clean, sanitary, organized, and safe environment throughout the hospital
