With over 250 physicians, 220 nurse practitioners and physician assistants and nearly 100 locations in our network. In the past five years, the majority of new cancer drugs approved for use in the U.S. were studied in clinical trials with FCS participation prior to approval.

Summary:
Assists physician in the care and teaching of patients.
PRIMARY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
oAssess the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
oWrite prescriptions for: medication, blood products based upon laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and care post-discharge in accordance with written practice protocols.
oBased on findings, determine eligibility of patients for entry into clinical trials.
oInterpret and evaluates findings of studies / tests.
oRelay appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.
oAdminister therapeutic measures / obtains specimens as prescribed.
oDictate follow-up letters to referring physicians with summaries of treatment, response and plan.
oDictate or writes patient history, admissions, progress notes, and discharge notes in a timely manner.
oAssist in the management of family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patients’ care.
oConduct or participate in daily multi-disciplinary rounds for assigned patients to ensure patients are receiving appropriate and quality care.
oProvide on-call coverage and performs hospital rounds as needed.
oTriage patients to determine urgency of physician evaluation.
oDocument and reports care in an accurate, timely manner using appropriate forms and records.
oDemonstrate a willingness to learn and to remain flexible in the changing health care environment.
oAssist staff in times of crisis or emergency.
oMeet with the public outside the institution and efficiently market and promote cancer treatment.
oDetermine work priorities, assign work and insure proper completion of work assignments.
oComply with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient’s rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law. Adheres to FCS and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Recovery Plan.
oOther duties as requested.
oKeep work area and records in a neat and orderly manner.
oMaintain all company equipment in a safe and working manner.
oMaintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information at all times as required by the HIPAA regulations.
oAssist in training new employees to related job duties.
oWill be expected to work at any FCS location to help meet FCS business needs as directed by collaborating physician.
oWill be expected to work overtime when given sufficient notice of required overtime.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:
oGraduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, master’s degree in nursing or post-masters nurse practitioner certificate program OR Physician Assistant program.
o 0 - 3 Years Licensed as Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
oCurrent license/registration to practice in the state of Florida, prescriptive privileges or eligible to apply
oCertification from Physician Assistant National Certification Program (PANCE), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or the Oncology Nurses Certification Corporation (ONCC).
oBLS certified
EXPERIENCE:
oLeadership skills necessary to direct others toward objectives that contribute to the successful treatment of patients. Analytical skills necessary to evaluate patients’ status, health care procedure / techniques and to monitor quality of patient care. Fiscal skills to monitor and control costs and revenue. Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion while performing duties is essential.

Safeguarding our patients and each other is an important part of how we deliver the best care possible to the communities we serve. All offers of employment at Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute are contingent upon clear results of a thorough background screening. Additionally, as a condition of employment, FCS requires all new hires to receive various vaccinations, including the influenza vaccine, barring an approved exemption. In addition, FCS is a drug-free workplace, and all new hires will be subject to drug/ nicotine testing. Medical Marijuana cards are not recognized.
