Position Description
Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis invites applications for an assistant professor of emergency medicine and medical toxicology.
The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking an emergency medicine and medical toxicology physician to join the faculty of the Division of Medical Toxicology.The current Division of six medical toxicologists supports the Department in providing patient care, education, service, outreach, and scholarship in medical toxicology and addiction medicine at Washington University School of Medicine, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, and other clinical entities within the larger BJC Healthcare system.
The Division of Medical Toxicology provides more than 1200 in-person and telemedicine consultations between the four clinical sites each year.The Division also operates a weekly outpatient toxicology clinic for adult and pediatric patients.In addition to the strong clinical presence in medical toxicology, the Division provides Addiction Medicine consultations and conducts research in Toxicology and Addiction Medicine in collaboration with the Departments of Psychiatry and Obstetrics and Gynecology.
The Division also supports an ACGME-accredited Medical Toxicology Fellowship approved for four fellows, a core rotation for Emergency Medicine residents, electives for medical students in medical toxicology and addiction medicine, and numerous training opportunities for residents and fellows from throughout the institution.Our fellowship and other training roles have helped us form productive collaborations with the Missouri Poison Center, Laboratory Medicine Department, and the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Department of Emergency Medicine is also home to the Emergency Care Research Core (ECRC), which provides excellent support for clinical research, including research coordinators available for patient recruitment 24 hours per day.The ECRC also provides clinical researchers with aid in study design, statistical analysis, budgeting, grant writing, grant management, and subject enrollment.The ECRC receives more than $12 million annually in research grants and contracts.Washington University (Ranked 3rd in total NIH funding in 2025) offers a broad range of resources for applicants interested in pursuing organized research.
