Job description

Strong communities don’t just happen. They’re thoughtfully planned and future-ready. We bring life to urban downtowns, suburban hubs, small towns, and rural areas through master-planned communities, mixed-use developments, parks, and recreation facilities. The result: vibrant economic centers, resilient neighborhoods, and welcoming places that feel like home.

Stantec’s Community Development group is a market leader in the planning and development industry. Our experts collaborate on projects that are as technically challenging as they are impactful, creative, and fulfilling. We’re a place where you can apply your passion—and find endless opportunities to help make communities more equitable, resilient, and livable.

Community Development’s multidisciplinary team includes planning, survey, urban design, civil and stormwater engineering, landscape architecture, private site development, and construction management. We work with a diverse group of clients on land and site development, municipal projects, open space, as well as planning and development policy and strategy. Successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects begins with insight and foresight into industry trends and engagement.

Your Opportunity

The role of Senior Project Manager (Civil) is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of our strong and collaborative team of industry leading professionals, working both independently and together on projects of various sizes and complexities. This individual will be responsible for managing the relationships with some of our most valued developer clients, providing exceptional customer service.

In this role, you will provide operational, technical and people leadership to the Community Development team, while managing continued growth and success in Texas. This position can be located in Austin, San Antonio, Houston or Plano, TX. You will play a pivotal role in expanding our existing client and project base to position Stantec to acquire new business. We will rely on your ability to energize and inspire others to promote an environment for success within the team, and to champion new ideas while holding yourself and others to high standards of accountability that ensure timely project delivery, resource efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. At the project level, you will be expected to apply your mature knowledge of the development market to manage proposed community development projects to ensure successful delivery, resource efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate business development efforts, including market research, client relationships, developing leads, and securing contracts

  • Prepare project proposals and attend pre- and post-proposals meetings/interviews

  • Establish, nurture and support the cross-discipline project design processes, communication and best practices, in collaboration with local and BC leadership

  • Attract, grow, and retain high-quality staff, in collaboration with HR Business Partner, local and BC leadership

  • Coach and develop team members to achieve high standards in meeting organizational goals

  • Liaise with clients, agencies and others to obtain and determine project requirements, permits, and approvals.

  • Ensure that client needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner.

  • Lead and be responsible for the preparation of Engineering drawings (residential, industrial and commercial), cost estimates, and preliminary and final reports. This may include technical review and professional stamping of engineering design drawings. It also includes the preparation of construction specifications and tender documents.

  • Perform project management duties on major projects, including client and sub-consultant coordination; making presentations to planning commissions, zoning boards, municipal officials and public agencies; attending client meeting; and visiting job sites

  • Maintain project budgets, prepare estimates, establish cost controls and maintain project schedules and quality control; prepare monthly billing

  • Organize and supervise the work of a technical team with regards to the planning, design, processing and construction support of civil engineering projects; provide direction to guide projects to successful completion

  • Provide internal peer review of designs by other land development engineers/technologists.

  • Coordinate designs with stormwater management engineers and incorporate stormwater designs into land development drawings.

  • Ensure projects meet applicable specifications and standards as per the governing municipality and adhere to Stantec’s QA/QC program.

  • Be the main client contact on the project(s).

  • Collaborate with local area leadership, including Project Managers, to ensure the office meets its operation goals and adheres to Stantec’s PM framework
