I. JOB OVERVIEW Job Description Summary: The George Washington University’s (ESIA) is one of the world’s leading schools of international affairs and one of the largest schools of international affairs in the United States. Located in the heart of Washington, D.C., its mission is to educate the next generation of international leaders, conduct research that advances understanding of important global issues, and engage the policy community in the United States and around the world.

The Elliott School seeks a dynamic and motivated individual to serve as Program Coordinator, Undergraduate International Affairs Programs, to support our Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree programs, and also provide support to various undergraduate initiatives. The Program Coordinator will report to the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Studies and is part of the Academic Programs team. The Academic Programs team collaborates, cross-trains, and supports each other’s programs as needed. In addition to building collegial relationships with internal team members, the Program Coordinator will work closely with faculty, directors, and staff throughout ESIA and key university offices.

The purpose of this position is to provide centralized and general administrative support to the assigned academic programs or initiatives. This role will serve as a point of contact for the assigned programs, will answer typical program questions, and will assist the program faculty with a variety of functional and administrative support. Support could include answering routine and complex inquiries, enrollment assistance, updating websites and list-servs, occasional planning and executing events, scheduling rooms, ordering equipment, processing payments, data entry, preparing reports, and similar duties. Often, these roles are tasked with outreach to other GW stakeholders in order to assist in maintaining standard operational efficiencies. Typical duties often are administrative in nature including tasks that are routine, and under the general supervision of more senior personnel within the Elliott School.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Assists the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Studies in planning and scheduling undergraduate courses, including corresponding with faculty and other GW departments and schools.
  • Supports a variety of curriculum management processes, including review and approval of new courses, working with affiliated departments and schools across GW to gather information about new course offerings, managing attributes which denote which courses can be taken to fulfill degree requirements, and liaising with the Registrar’s Office in support of the BA/BSIA programs’ courses.
  • Assists with research and internship programs related to BAIABSIA by reviewing student applications for internships, independent studies, and research courses with the Associate Director, enrolling accepted students into their courses, and communicating with faculty their responsibilities as advisors.
  • Refers student and faculty inquiries to the responsible offices, including Undergraduate Advising, Academic Programs, etc.
  • Monitors webpages and Bulletin pages to ensure all information is current and correct, and communicates updates with the responsible offices. Supports the yearly Bulletin update process.
  • Assists with communication and outreach to students regarding courses and opportunities.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

This is a hybrid position with three days in-person in Washington, DC, and two days remote. Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.   • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
  • A demonstrated interest in International Affairs preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is highly preferred.
