Job Title: Teen Program Coordinator (High School & CIT Programs)

Location: Boys & Girls Club of Milford
Position Type: Seasonal (Summer)
Reports To: Teen Director

Position Overview

The Teen Program Coordinator is a leadership role responsible for co-developing, implementing, and supervising engaging, safe, and impactful programming for high school-aged members and Counselors-in-Training (CITs) during the summer program. This position supports both traditional teen programming and structured leadership development initiatives, helping teens build confidence, responsibility, life skills, and a strong sense of belonging.

This individual will serve as a mentor, facilitator, and role model, working to create a positive Club culture where all teens feel seen, heard, valued, and supported. The Teen Program Coordinator must be comfortable taking initiative, leading independently, and managing both structured programs and day-to-day operations, including stepping into a leadership role when the Teen Director is not present.

Core Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Implementation

  • Co-lead the daily operations of the High School Teen Program and CIT Program
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate activities that align with Boys & Girls Club priority outcomes (Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship, Healthy Lifestyles)
  • Develop and implement at least two structured, evidence-based teen programs for CITs (examples include Money Matters, Diplomas2Degrees, or Career Launch)
  • Adapt programming to meet the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of participants
  • Ensure all activities are well-prepared, organized, and executed with clear instructions and expectations
  • Create weekly and daily program plans, including contingency plans for weather or schedule changes

CIT (Counselor-in-Training) Development

  • Mentor and guide CITs in developing leadership, responsibility, and workplace readiness skills
  • Provide hands-on coaching in areas such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and professionalism
  • Assign CITs meaningful responsibilities and support them in completing tasks effectively
  • Offer constructive feedback and encouragement to support personal growth
  • Model appropriate behavior, work ethic, and leadership at all times
  • Facilitate reflection activities to help CITs process their experiences and growth

Sports & Recreation Programming

  • Design, organize, and run a 3-on-3 basketball program or league for high school members
  • Create schedules, teams, and rules that promote fair play, inclusion, and positive competition
  • Supervise all games and practices, ensuring safety and sportsmanship
  • Engage non-participating members through alternative recreational activities
  • Incorporate teamwork, leadership, and character-building elements into sports programming

Youth Supervision & Safety

  • Provide active, consistent supervision of all teens to ensure a safe and supportive environment
  • Maintain awareness of all participants at all times (headcounts, transitions, etc.)
  • Enforce Club rules, policies, and behavioral expectations fairly and consistently
  • Address conflicts or behavioral issues calmly and constructively using positive behavior management techniques
  • Identify and respond appropriately to safety concerns, incidents, or emergencies
  • Follow all mandated reporting requirements and Club safety protocols

Relationship Building & Youth Engagement

  • Build strong, positive relationships with teens, creating an environment of trust and respect
  • Foster a sense of belonging where all members feel included and valued
  • Encourage participation, leadership, and peer support among members
  • Actively engage with teens during activities rather than supervising passively
  • Serve as a consistent, supportive adult role model

Leadership & Site Responsibility

  • Serve as the lead staff member in the building when the Teen Director is not present
  • Ensure all programs run smoothly and safely in the absence of direct supervision
  • Make responsible decisions regarding program adjustments, safety, and behavior management
  • Communicate effectively with other staff to maintain consistency across programs
  • Assist in opening/closing procedures as needed

Administrative & Organizational Duties

  • Maintain accurate attendance records and program documentation
  • Assist with tracking participation and program outcomes
  • Help prepare materials and supplies for daily activities
  • Support communication with families and staff as needed
  • Assist with special events, field trips, and guest speakers
  • Ensure spaces are clean, organized, and set up for success

Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Work closely with the Teen Director and other Club staff to align programming goals
  • Support overall Club operations and assist in other program areas when needed
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities
  • Contribute ideas to enhance teen engagement and program quality

Qualifications

  • Experience working with teens (high school age strongly preferred).
  • Previous experience in youth development, summer camps, education, or recreation programs
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage groups effectively and maintain structure
  • Comfortable leading activities, facilitating discussions, and engaging groups
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in sports programming, coaching, or athletics (basketball preferred)
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience mentoring or supervising teens in leadership roles

Key Competencies

  • Leadership & Initiative
  • Youth Engagement & Relationship Building

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry program supplies as needed

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced, high-energy summer camp setting
  • Frequent interaction with teens, staff, and families
  • Requires flexibility, creativity, and a positive attitude

Expectations & Professional Standards

  • Serve as a positive role model at all times
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries with youth
  • Demonstrate respect, inclusivity, and cultural awareness
  • Uphold the mission and values of the Boys & Girls Club
