Step into a day running a high-velocity plant
You start your morning with a quick huddle across first-line production supervisors, aligning on production targets, cost controls, and compliance. You fine-tune labor plans to match today’s schedule, then walk the floor to verify that workflow is smooth and safe.
By mid-morning, you’ve partnered with Quality to review the QA Hold area, traced root causes for any non-conformances, and kicked off process controls to prevent recurrence. You sync with Maintenance to prioritize work on critical equipment, keeping uptime high and changeover/screen-change times shrinking.
After lunch, you’re diving into data. Scrap, lbs per labor hour, downtime minutes by line, throughput vs. engineering capability, and quality complaints (by day, week, month, product, and shift) all roll into the production report you compile to spotlight improvement opportunities. You close the day by coaching supervisors, aligning with Scheduling, Safety, Sales, Customer Service, and—when needed—external customers, ensuring we ship to target.
What you’ll lead
- Drive efficiencies to hit production goals while holding the line on costs and maintaining compliance.
- Design and implement labor utilization plans to achieve manufacturing output.
- Champion continuous improvement—optimize processes and management methods; document and train to new standards.
- Lead a team of first-line production supervisors and indirect reports.
- Foster positive employee engagement in partnership with production supervisors.
- Collaborate closely with the Quality team to maintain consistent product quality and specifications.
- Routinely inspect the QA Hold area, determine root causes for non-conforming product, and implement controls to prevent repeat issues.
- Oversee procurement and flow of raw materials: efficient offloading, accurate inventory counts, strict BOM adherence, and optimal resin usage to reduce cost.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager to keep production equipment operating efficiently.
- Partner with internal and external support functions to execute the production schedule and ensure all product ships to target.
- Maintain strong communications with Scheduling, Safety, Sales, Customer Service, and external customers as needed.
- Champion a safe, healthy workplace by setting safety standards and holding everyone accountable.
- Compile data-driven production reports covering scrap, lbs/labor hour, changeover and screen-change times, downtime by line and plant (day/week/month, by product, by shift), actual lbs/hour vs. engineered capability, and quality complaints—using insights to drive improvement.
- Participate in plant-wide communication meetings and employee events.
- Other essential duties as assigned.
How you’ll make an impact with people
- Partner with Human Resources on talent strategies: goal-setting, performance and development, succession planning, interviewing/selection, and corrective action where appropriate.
- Document new processes and ensure training sticks on the floor.
