Electrical Engineer Who We Are
We are an early-stage robotics startup based in Austin, Texas, focused on developing rugged, scalable robotic systems for use in hazardous environments. Our technology supports firefighting, emergency response, public safety, oil and gas, defense, and industrial applications.
Our mission is to deliver reliable, high-performance robots that operate in extreme, real-world conditions and solve critical challenges for frontline teams.
Backed by leading venture firms, we are working closely with major organizations across the United States, including fire departments, law enforcement agencies, industrial operators, and military units.
As a small, fast-moving team, we are developing the next generation of our platform and moving toward production. This is a unique opportunity to join early and play a key role in shaping both the product and the company.
The Opportunity
As an Electrical Engineer, you will design and develop the electrical systems that power and control robotic platforms operating in demanding environments. This is a highly hands-on role where you will work across the full hardware lifecycle—from concept and prototyping through to testing, deployment, and production.
You will collaborate closely with mechanical and software engineers, taking ownership of your systems and ensuring performance, reliability, and integration across the product.
Key Responsibilities
- Design analog and digital circuits, including power regulation, signal conditioning, and sensor interfaces
- Own PCB development from schematic capture through layout and bring-up
- Troubleshoot and resolve system-level electrical issues during development and testing
- Develop and maintain wiring diagrams, harness designs, grounding strategies, and EMI/EMC considerations
- Support sensor selection and integration (thermal, gas, imaging, RF, etc.)
- Conduct and analyse testing related to thermal performance, EMI, and environmental durability
- Design and build cable harnesses and supporting hardware for field use
- Perform circuit simulation and validation using SPICE tools
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure seamless integration across mechanical and software systems
- Contribute to design reviews and maintain clear technical documentation
- Support the development of internal standards, processes, and testing infrastructure
- Engage with end users where necessary to refine requirements and improve system performance
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- 2+ years of experience designing and testing circuit boards for embedded or electromechanical systems
- Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g. Altium, KiCad, Eagle)
- Strong foundation in both analog and digital circuit design
- Experience with microcontrollers and communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN)
- Comfortable using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters
- Experience with soldering and reworking surface-mount components
- Experience building and troubleshooting wiring harnesses
- Familiarity with SPICE simulation tools (e.g. LTspice, PSpice)
Preferred Experience
- 3+ years of experience in hardware-focused product development environments
- Experience designing boards that have been deployed in real-world applications
- Knowledge of thermal management and EMI/EMC considerations
- Familiarity with embedded C/C++ or collaboration with firmware teams
- Experience with harness design tools (e.g. SolidWorks Electrical, RapidHarness, Zuken)
- Background in startup or early-stage hardware development environments
Additional Expectations
- Willingness to work extended hours when required to meet key milestones
- Hands-on involvement in design, assembly, testing, and field deployment
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability for system performance
- Proactive communicator who contributes to process improvements
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines and support broader engineering needs
