Job Summary
Responsible for initiatives that support consistent, accurate underwriting functions necessary to achieve company financial goals such as growth, profitability and ease of doing business targets. Responsible for core underwriting functions and serves as an expert in system rules, data analysis and interpretation, legal & compliance issues, underwriting authority, underwriting appetite guidelines and underwriting process flow.
Essential Job Functions
- Develops and manages business processes, creating improvements in underwriting efficiency, quality and/or productivity, cost reductions, competitive bench marking, organization analysis and customer service improvements.
- Manages a skilled team and leads national projects/programs in an effort to substantially impact premium growth, expense reduction and/or profit improvement.
- Initiates, monitors and recommends national validation programs to reduce underwriting leakage.
- Ensures analytics solutions are trusted, scalable, and aligned to enterprise priorities.
- Oversees delivery of Underwriting reporting and advanced analytics solutions, maintains strong governance and data quality standards, and build high?performing, future?ready teams.
- Monitors, controls and evaluates the efficiency of the underwriting business rules engine, identifying new rules to support profitable growth and ensure proper rating of new and existing business.
- Ensures compliance within the underwriting process.
- Collaborates closely with other stakeholders such as Loss Control, Service, Distribution, Product, Claims, IT and/or Underwriting centers.
- Initiates, evaluates, recommends and implements outside investigation tools to validate information while increasing the return on the tools used.
- Manages several functions including underwriting quality, post validation, referrals and underwriting authority levels.
- Evaluates, recommends and implements customer selection guidelines to support policy growth while protecting profitability.
- Projects the impact of proposed new or revised policy, procedure, program or practice prior to adoption of such a proposal.
- Identifies, acquires and manages the required resources, both internal and external, to complete strategic projects.
- Ensures compliance with all legislation surrounding the use of credit scoring.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree preferred. CPCU preferred.
Experience Requirements
7+ years insurance underwriting experience required. 2 years leadership experience preferred. Experience delivering analytics at scale in a complex organization. Business intelligence and reporting experience preferred. PowerBI and PowerApps experience preferred.
Physical Environment
Required job duties are normally performed in a climate- controlled office environment. Physical Actions Required job duties are essentially sedentary work consisting of occasional walking, standing and lifting and/or carrying 10-lbs. maximum and seeing, hearing, reaching, pulling, speaking, reading and writing.
