Senior Software Engineer

At Squaremouth , our mission is simple: make travel insurance easy. We take complicated insurance products and turn them into a clear, simple comparison experience so travelers can find the coverage that gives them peace of mind. Outengineers play a huge role in making that possible.

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our small, passionate, and fast-moving team. You'll help us evolve our core platform, tackle complex performance challenges, and experiment with new technologies, including AI, to make our product and our team better every day.

This is a fully remote role. We're based on US Eastern Time, and we welcome candidates who can collaborate during those hours.

What you'll do:

• Build and ship features across our entire stack, from backend services to customer-facing interfaces.

• Improve system performance, scalability, and reliability.

• Experiment with AI tools to boost developer and user experience.

• Collaborate closely with teammates across engineering, product, and design.

• Take ownership of projects from idea to production.

• Mentor other developers and share knowledge to help the team grow.

What we're looking for:

• 5+ years building web applications (Ruby on Rails preferred).

• Proven ability to ship high-quality work with minimal oversight.

• Strong ownership and drive; you make things happen.

• Passion for solving problems and continuously improving.

• Comfortable working independently in a distributed team.

Bonus points for experience with:

• Building APIs (REST or GraphQL)

• Frontend frameworks like React or Next.js

• Docker, Kubernetes, or other containerization tools

• AWS services and APIs

• AI tooling

Salary Transparency:

As such, the total salary paid will vary directly depending on the successful candidate's book of business at an particular time.? The draw range for this position is $100,000 - $150,000 annually and could be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate's skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position's business line, scope and level.
