Job Description
The Accounting (AP/AR) Manager is responsible for ensuring the accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivables (AR) financial statements for Mazda Motor of America, Inc. (MMA) comply with US GAAP and Japan (Parent Company) reporting standards.
The individual in this position oversees and ensures the accuracy of the accounting records and the timely processing of accounting transactions.
The Accounting Manager supervises accountants, accounts receivable team and accounts payable team.
The Accounting Department deals with tight deadlines (5 day monthly close). This role will manage a multitude of accounting activities including (but not limited to) accounts receivable processing, accounts payable processing, related party reporting, financial reporting, assessing reserves, accounting system management, reviewing journal entries, reviewing accounting reconciliations, year-end audit preparation and process efficiency projects.
This role leads the evaluation and proposal of programs, as well as provides accounting guidance to ensure proper processes and procedures are in accordance with US GAAP to Operations, Finance and IT.
Major Areas of Responsibility (MAR):
Accounting - 15%
- Interprets US GAAP guidance and implements efficient processes and procedures to effectively report in accordance with US GAAP relative to AP/AR.
- Ensures the AP/AR Accounting operations, systems and transactions are properly recorded.
- Evaluates reserves for Mazda accounting.
- Other responsibilities may include (but not limited to) such areas as: supporting Operations and Finance concerning, accounting areas, and managing the SAP accounting system.
Accounting Close - 25%
- Reviews and approves periodic journal entries and reconciliations.
- Directs internal control processes to comply with J-SOX requirements.
- Contribute to the preparation of the financial statements and quarterly parent company reporting.
Manage Professional Team - 50%
- Lead, coach, and motivate the team in the accounting group.
Audit Support - 10%
- Liaison with external and internal auditors for accounting matters
Qualifications and Other Requirements:
Education (Minimum):
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business/Economics-related or other related field is required; or equivalent combination of education, training and/or work experience in lieu of degree.
Experience:
Minimum five (5) years of finance or accounting experience. To include:
Minimum three (3) years of experience supervising at least 4 or more AP/AR direct reports.
Experience with SAP or other large automated accounting systems a plus.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, audit processes, and accounting systems. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills required.
Pay Range
$95,500.00 - $145,675.00
