Job description
Risk Management Specialist Los Angeles Hybrid (2 days onsite) 6-Month Contract (potential to hire) W2 only No C2C or sponsorship Local candidates preferred We're seeking a Senior Energy Risk Management Specialist to join a busy, team-oriented group supporting a wholesale energy portfolio. You'll own quantitative risk modeling, ETRM operations, and risk governance for a dynamic energy organization. Responsibilities:
- Calculate and report daily VaR and Mark-to-Market valuations across physical and financial energy products
- Run Monte Carlo simulations and stress tests for extreme market scenarios
- Develop, implement, and maintain an ETRM system and workflow end-to-end
- Validate forward price curves and manage pricing/market data
- Build and automate risk reporting dashboards for executive leadership
- Monitor trading activity for compliance with risk policy and authorized limits
- Analyze Basis Risk and Shape Risk to ensure effective hedging strategies
- Lead Risk Oversight Committee meetings and maintain the Risk Management Policy
- Education (3 options):
- Client prefers 10+ years of energy industry experience in a risk management role
- 6+ years of energy industry experience in an energy risk management role MS or Ph.D. degree in quantitative discipline (mathematics, quantitative finance, economics, statistics data science)
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, majoring in a related field and 8 years of relevant experience
- Deep knowledge of energy commodity markets
- Hands-on experience with ETRM systems, VaR modeling, and MtM valuation
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present to executive audiences
