Assistant Controller

Assistant Controller Department:

• Accounting Location: Houston, TX (Onsite) Employment Type: Full-Time Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Assistant Controller to support the financial and accounting operations of the organization.
• This role partners closely with the Controller and CFO to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and efficient day-to-day accounting functions.
• The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, leadership potential, and a proactive approach to process improvement.
• Key Responsibilities Support the Controller in managing daily accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
• Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Help maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance.
• Support the development and standardization of accounting policies and procedures.
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with department leaders.
• Coordinate audit preparation and support external auditors during financial reviews.
• Prepare supporting schedules, reconciliations, and documentation for tax compliance and reporting.
• Monitor cash flow activities and assist with banking transactions and account management.
• Provide financial analysis, variance reporting, and insights to support leadership decision-making.
• Help implement and improve financial systems, reporting tools, and accounting processes.
• Produce reports, dashboards, and performance analyses for executive leadership.
• Support special projects, cost initiatives, and ROI analysis efforts as assigned by the Controller or CFO.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff while helping build a high-performing team environment.
• Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (CPA or CPA-eligible preferred). 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience. 1–3 years of experience in a senior accounting, accounting manager, or assistant controller-level role.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
• Demonstrated leadership capability and desire to grow into a Controller role.
