Posting Number: 260050 Job Title: Instructor Pool - Pharmacy Technician Instructor Applicant Notification: Department InformationThe is seeking to expand its pool of part-time faculty to teach the Pharmacy Technician course.
  • Beyond the required education and experience, instructors must have a passion for what they teach and have teaching styles that support student success. Instructors are responsible for following Division and College procedures in support of teaching and learning.
  • This is an application pool posting for 2026-2027. The assigned location for this position is at the Lane Community College’s main campus located in Eugene, Oregon.

  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program/course or equivalent.
  • Training received from an accredited institution must be recognized as required by ORS
  • Has a baccalaureate degree or higher.
Required Experience:
  • Has at least 3 years working in a pharmacy as a certified Pharmacy Technician.
  • Has at least 1 year of experience educating, instructing, or training in pharmacy.
Licensure or Certification Requirements
  • Active PTCB CPhT Certification
  • Ability to obtain, within two (2) terms upon employment, the National Certified Pharmacy Technician Educator (CPTEd) Certification.
  • Current certification in CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers and First Aid, or the ability to obtain it prior to employment.

Preferred Qualifications Preferred Education
  • National Certified Pharmacy Technician Educator (CPTEd) Certification
  • Participation in instructor supervised/unsupervised, formal learning courses, seminars, self-study, and workshops on clinical pathology, laboratory medicine, and patient care.
Preferred Experience
  • Extensive experience working in a pharmacy as a certified Pharmacy Technician.
  • Experience educating, instructing, or training in pharmacy.
  • Has knowledge of educational methods and current accreditation and certification procedures.
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge and proficiency in their content areas;
  • Demonstrates the ability to teach effectively at the appropriate level.

Position Purpose: The Pharmacy Technician Instructor is essential in training and forming highly skilled Pharmacy technicians by applying approved and effective techniques of student supervision, motivation, and classroom management; and appropriate curriculum and instructional materials for the assigned subject area. They will be responsible for ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment, as well as providing guidance and support for students to succeed in gaining the necessary knowledge and skills in preparation for the certification. As necessary, the Pharmacy technician instructor will also review the current curriculum, and as needed, may develop and implement teaching and learning strategies to enhance the course. Essential Functions:

  • Develop and maintain a variety of administrative records; prepare reports as necessary; safely and effectively operate various equipment appropriate for the assigned instructional area

  • Perform the job safely, demonstrate and teach effectively the technical area(s) of Certified Pharmacy Technician specifically to train individuals in the following: Pharmacy and Health Care The Professional Pharmacy Technician Pharmacy Laws, Regulations, and Ethics Information Terminology Calculations Prescriptions Routes and Formulations PTCE Blueprint and ExCPT blueprints Review Review the Top 200 Most Prescribed Drugs in the Nonsterile Compounding Sterile Compounding and Aseptic Technique Basic Biopharmaceutics Factors Affecting Drug Activity Common Drugs and Their Uses Inventory Managements Financial Issues Community Pharmacy Hospital Pharmacy Other Environments Commonly Refrigerated Drugs How to Apply for the PTCE/ExCPT Exams Continuing Pharmacy Education for Pharmacy Technicians
Support student learning through activities that include:
  • Exhibit compliance with College policies and procedures, accountability for leave time, timesheet completion, release time, textbook ordering and related functions
  • Sustain currency in discipline and innovation in teaching
  • Collegial participation in faculty performance evaluation process
  • Maintain and post office hours in alignment with College expectations
  • Maintain physical campus presence for instruction and daily needs of students, departments, college, and community, as specified in the
  • Maintain requirements for student records, attendance, grades, and/or other documentation; ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab, including equipment, supplies, and inventory
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students

Curriculum Delivery
  • Provide high-quality classroom instruction
  • Create course content, develop and revise course content and materials
  • Establish learning outcomes consistent with core ability outcomes, assess outcomes using appropriate assessment tools, and use assessment results to inform improvements at a program and course level
  • Incorporate college values into the curriculum and promote a respectful learning environment including facilitating awareness of multicultural and diversity issues in curricula
  • Teach and develop all class syllabi and course materials, in a form that can be directly delivered to, and used by, students
  • Confer with students on course materials
  • Deliver curriculum to students in traditional and online formats
Online Teaching and Student Support
  • Engage within the online course environment to ensure Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI)
  • Monitor student progress and provide reasonable coaching and assistance to struggling students towards success
  • Review and grade all work submitted by students and provide timely and substantive feedback
  • Provide timely responses to student inquiries
  • Ensure that all materials meet the guidelines of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Use effective strategies for teaching online

Supervision Statement: Supervision of other personnel is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel, and may assign work to student workers.

Works under the general direction of the Dean of Health Professions, Health and Physical Education and the Associate Dean/Director of Nursing. Physical Demands/Working Environment: This position works indoors and is exposed to usual office working conditions that include office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephones, and visitors. This position requires that an employee is able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day. Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work safely. Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the subject area(s) appropriate for the class being taught including knowledge of the CPhT Certification process, and effective techniques of student supervision, motivation, and classroom management.
  • Ability to effectively instruct students as assigned in lesson plans, effectively communicate orally and in writing; guide and advise students regarding assigned technical topics and exercises, establish criteria and evaluate students’ progress.
  • Knowledge and Skills in using Microsoft Office Applications and email.
  • Recall, collect, analyze, synthesize, and integrate information from a variety of sources
  • Problem-solve and think critically in order to apply knowledge and skill
  • Communicate verbally, and through reading and writing, with individuals from a variety of social, emotional, cultural, and intellectual backgrounds
