Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Through reflection leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, school-based speech-language pathologists provide prevention, assessment, and remediation services for students who exhibit difficulties in the areas of language, speech articulation, voice, and fluency. Effective school-based speech-language pathologists strive to support growth and development in the least restrictive environment, close achievement gaps, and prepare diverse student populations for postsecondary and workforce success. These services are designed to enhance children’s academic achievement and help them meet their educational goals.

JOB REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree or higher

• Colorado Department of Education-Special Services License with a SLP endorsement

• American Speech and Hearing Association assessment certification or ASHA certificate

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Organizes a program that addresses local school speech-language goals

• Works cooperatively with school personnel to accomplish the goals and objectives of the

local education agency

• Coordinates speech-language services with student services provided by other school

personnel

• Maintains records of the speech-language program and prepares periodic reports as

required

• Adheres to established rules, regulations, laws, and appropriate ethical standards

• Case manages special education programs for students identified SLI only, including

conducting eligibility meetings, triennial reevaluation meetings, annual review meetings

and all related paperwork and documentation

• Conducts speech, language, and hearing screenings in a variety of locations

• Makes plans and decisions collaboratively, authentically reflecting input from diverse

groups

• Administers formal and informal (ongoing and curriculum-based) assessments

• Obtains additional diagnostic information from appropriate persons and available records for speech-language purposes

• Analyzes and interprets information to make recommendations regarding the need for

speech-language services

• Provides appropriate information on an informal or formal basis regarding speech,

language programs

• Supervises undergraduate interns, SLPs in Clinical Fellowship Year, paraprofessionals,

and speech language pathology assistants as assigned

• Advocate for all students with disabilities and share knowledge regarding impact of the

speech-language impairment upon academics and overall functioning at school, at home,

and in the community

• Collaborate and consult with classroom teachers in the management of speech-language impairments

• Plans evidence-based interventions appropriate for individual students and groups of

student

• Develops and maintains professional working relations with SCBOCES and serving

district employees

• Use evidence-based methods and techniques appropriate to stated objectives.

• Manages the facilities materials and equipment, including assistive technology, necessary to the delivery of service

• Adjusts intervention strategies based on student performance

• Promotes effective interpersonal relations with students and families

• Completes procedural documentation appropriately

• Abides by professional code of ethics

• Develops appropriate IEPs based on students’ strengths and needs

• Manages time efficiently

• Engages in continuing education and professional growth activities related to speech language and education

• Provides consultation to parents, teachers, and other appropriate school personnel.

• Seeks the assistance of teachers, parents, and others to meet the communication needs of students

• Consult/communicate with non-school agencies to enhance services

• Make recommendations and referrals for audiological/medical and related services.

• Serves on RtI or other school-based teams as appropriate

• Operate the programs in accordance with Federal and State Department guidelines and Board of Directors regulations and policies

• Attends meetings as required

• Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with co-workers, and

interact with colleagues in a professional manner

• Demonstrates a positive attitude towards change

• Performs such other tasks as may, from time to time, be assigned

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to: lift and safely move 50 pounds; frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person; frequently squat, stoop, kneel, crawl, and repeat the same hand or finger motion. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
