Employee Relations Investigator

The Employee Relations Investigator conducts thorough, unbiased investigations into employee relations concerns and supports a positive, engaged workforce. This role combines hands-on investigative work with strategic partnership, requiring close collaboration across teams to provide expert guidance on complex workplace issues and ensure fair, consistent outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct full-cycle, unbiased investigations into employee relations concerns, from intake through closure.
  • Determine findings based on facts and evidence, and prepare all required documentation in a clear, concise, and well-organized manner.
  • Draft comprehensive investigation reports that summarize allegations, evidence, analysis, credibility assessments, and final conclusions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case management and tracking tools to document investigative activities, timelines, and outcomes.
  • Conduct in-person, web-based, and phone-based interviews with complainants, respondents, and witnesses in a neutral, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Analyze information collected from interviews and other evidence, evaluating credibility and consistency to reach timely and well-reasoned conclusions.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and handle all issues with sensitivity, ensuring investigations remain impartial and free from bias.
  • Identify key investigative issues, relevant evidence, and appropriate investigative actions for each case.
  • Partner with other internal teams and stakeholders as needed to ensure appropriate follow-up and resolution of employee concerns.
  • Maintain regular, proactive interactions with leaders, partners, and employees to help navigate new or critical situations requiring employee relations expertise.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to stakeholders on employee relations matters, grounded in best practices and applicable laws.
  • Participate in and support projects led by the Employee Relations team, contributing investigative expertise and insights.
  • Effectively manage multiple investigations simultaneously, prioritizing workload and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communicate objectively and professionally with employees and management about complex, difficult, and emotional issues, both verbally and in writing.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2+ years of employee relations or investigations experience, with 5+ years preferred.
  • Demonstrated full-cycle investigation experience, including intake, planning, interviewing, evidence review, analysis, and case closure.
  • Knowledge of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation cases and how to investigate them effectively.
  • Strong credibility assessment skills, including the ability to evaluate consistency, corroboration, and reliability of information.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive investigation reports and documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases efficiently while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality work.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and statutes that govern employment policies and practices.
  • Thorough understanding and application of workplace investigations best practices and standards.
  • Experience conducting neutral fact-finding interviews with employees at various levels of an organization.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization and collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Ability to communicate objectively with employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotional issues.
  • Outstanding verbal communication skills, including the ability to ask effective questions and facilitate open dialogue.
  • Strong business acumen, demonstrated through familiarity with internal and external HR principles, concepts, practices, and standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience supporting employee relations in multi-location or multi-state environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate key partnerships with HR, legal, and business leaders during investigations.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Experience using case management or tracking tools to document and monitor investigations.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and provide practical recommendations.
  • Comfort working with employees and leaders at different levels and in different functions.
  • Interest in contributing to broader Employee Relations projects and initiatives beyond individual investigations.

Work Environment

This role is based in a corporate environment, with a preferred location in Austin, TX, and additional options in Fremont, CA; Reno, NV; Draper, UT; and Buffalo, NY. The position involves frequent interaction with employees, leaders, and cross-functional partners, often through in-person, web-based, and phone-based meetings and interviews. Work is fast-paced and time-sensitive, requiring effective prioritization and strong organization. The environment emphasizes professionalism, confidentiality, and collaboration, with a focus on fostering a fair, respectful, and engaging workplace.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Austin, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $47.00 - $55.00/hr.
