Job description

Locations: San Francisco Schools (near Sunset area)
School Year Schedule (August 17, 2026 – June 2, 2027)

  • After-School Program (M, T, Th, F): 1:45 PM – 5:00 PM
  • After-School Program (Wednesday): 12:35 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Recess Coaching: Added to schedule based on site assignment (approx. 10:30 AM – 1:00 PM, 4 days/week)
  • Admin & Prep Time: Included weekly for meetings, curriculum planning, and communications

This role requires commitment to both the Recess program and the ASP for the full school year. The Asst Site Lead is expected to be present and reliable for all scheduled programming days.

ANTS Sports is seeking a dependable, energetic, and experienced Assistant Site Lead to support our after-school sports programs and morning recess program across West Portal Elementary, Dianne Feinstein Elementary, and Miraloma Elementary. This role works directly alongside the Site Lead to help deliver a fun, safe, and structured sports experience for K–5th grade students.

While serving as the #2 in the After School Program is a familiar and expected part of this role, the defining responsibility that sets this position apart is Recess. The Assistant Site Lead will be expected to help lead or support Recess programming, including at sites where no Site Lead is present. This requires someone who can run a high-quality session independently, manage a group of students confidently, and represent ANTS with professionalism on any campus.

This is a great position for someone who enjoys working with children, leading others, and growing in the field of youth sports education.

Requirements

Recess Programming

  • Lead or support Recess sessions across assigned sites — including sites where no Site Lead is present
  • Manage a group of 30–50 students independently during Recess, maintaining energy, safety, and structure
  • Set up and break down Recess equipment before and after each session
  • Uphold ANTS program standards and STAR values as the senior ANTS presence on campus during Recess

After School Program (ASP) Support

  • Serve as the #2 in the After School Program — stepping in as acting Site Lead when needed
  • Assist the Site Lead with daily setup, equipment organization, and curriculum preparation
  • Support pre-program huddles and post-program reflections with the coaching team
  • Help manage station rotations and time across groups of 30–50 students
  • Set up equipment before each session and clean up afterward

Staff Support

  • Help supervise, support, and prepare a team of 3–4 coaches for each day's programming
  • Provide real-time feedback and reinforcement to coaches during sessions
  • Communicate clearly with coaches about roles, expectations, and daily logistics

Coaching

  • Coach a variety of sports in a fun, inclusive, and age-appropriate manner for TK–5th grade students
  • Foster a safe, encouraging environment for all students using ANTS' STAR values
  • Demonstrate high energy, enthusiasm, and engagement as a role model for both students and coaches

Operations & Safety

  • Assist with student arrival, transitions, and dismissal to ensure smooth daily flow
  • Communicate professionally with families, school staff, and ANTS leadership
  • Support behavior management and conflict resolution following ANTS protocols
  • Ensure program safety and respond appropriately to any incidents or emergencies
  • Assist with attendance tracking and check-in/check-out safety procedures
  • Help manage equipment across assigned sites — conducting safety checks and flagging inventory needs

Minimum Qualifications

    • 3+ years of experience working with youth (K–5th grade preferred)
    • 1+ year of experience supervising or managing staff
    • 1+ year of experience coaching sports or physical activity programs
    • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
    • Comfortable working outdoors and engaging actively in physical play
    • Available for all program dates and hours throughout the school year, including both Recess and ASP
    • Must clear fingerprint background check and TB test
    • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to complete upon hire)

Benefits

    • Competitive pay at $30/hour
    • Additional Recess coaching hours available on top of the ASP schedule
    • Priority consideration for holiday camp and summer camp work when enrollment warrants — no guarantee, but Asst Site Leads are first in line
    • Supportive, growth-oriented team culture
    • Ongoing training and leadership development
    • Experience working with a mission-driven youth sports organization
    • Opportunity for year-round employment, including summer camp programs
    • Clear pathway to Site Lead — the primary internal promotion track for this role

Job Type: Part Time

Pay: $30/hr

Expected hours: ~32 hours a week
