Job Summary
This position will work in support of all the operations of the Arnette Scott Ward Performing Arts Center Scene Shop, including building, painting, and maintaining set pieces for theatre, dance,
and musical productions as well as lead deck crews.
Essential Functions
30% - Constructing set pieces for theatre, dance, and musical productions.
(20%) - Operating power tools to build safe sets.
(10%) - Loading completed set pieces onto the stage in a fully realized and safe condition.
20% - Painting set pieces for theatre, dance, and musical productions.
(15%) - Applying scenic painting techniques to achieve varied textures.
(5%) - Mixing paint in order to create colors and textures per the scenic design.
20% - Maintains the scene shop and scenic/prop storage areas.
(10%) - Cleanup of work areas and putting away tools. Maintaining a clean shop space.
(10%) - Maintains the prop storage areas and keeps them clean and organized for students, staff, and faculty.
10% - Work as a stagehand on productions.
(5%) - Move props, set pieces, or fly lines on cue.
(5%) - Assist cast and crew with their duties in order to ensure a high quality production.
10% - Assists the Scene Shop Supervisor.
(5%) - Works with the scene shop supervisor to coordinate work with students, staff, and volunteers.
(5%) - Guide and assist students working in the shop.
5% - Assisting Department Functions
(5%) - Assists the Performing Arts Center Manager in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all users of CGCC’s performing arts facilities. Enforces applicable health, safety policies and regulations as established by the Performing Arts Center Manager.
5% - Other Duties
(5%) - Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma.
Desired Qualifications
1. Familiarity with power tools (miter saw, table saw, drill, impact driver).
2. Experience working from drawings to construct pieces.
3. Experience executing a scenic design that fits within the world of the play.
4. Experience with a variety of painting techniques.
Special Working Conditions
Night and weekend work may occasionally be required.
Most work is performed indoors in an air conditioned shop.
