Manager, Rehabilitative Services - Outpatient

Position Type Full Time Job Shift Day Travel Percentage Up to 50% Category Healthcare Administration and Operations

Regional One Health, one of the regions' top Level I Trauma and Burn Centers, is currently seeking a Manager for our Outpatient Rehabilitation Services at our East Memphis location.

The ideal candidate will be a Licensed as a Physical Therapist with Outpatient Therapy and Management experience. Minimum 1 year experience One (1) year in a leadership role Required

A Brief Overview Plans, coordinates and manages the daily rehab therapy activities for inpatient and outpatient operations to ensure that quality services are provided in the most cost effective manner in accordance with established organizational policies, procedures, medical bylaws and other regulatory/compliance requirements.

What you will do

  • Apprises Director, Rehab Services of all activities, pertinent changes in internal/external market, threats, and opportunities in a timely and anticipatory manner and presents action plans for immediate implementation/approval.
  • Maintains current awareness of customer needs and ensures multi-disciplinary team communication. Maintains compliance with Rehab patient care standards as it relates to the care provided to patients ranging from neonates to geriatrics. Assists in developing objectives, policies, procedures and standards of performance required for department operations. Ensures compliance with applicable policies, standards, hospital bylaws, and regulatory requirements. Initiates/attends cross-functional teams to resolve issues and for performance improvement as required. Participates in orientation and serves as a resource to Rehab, medical and hospital staff regarding departmental policies and procedures and medical staff bylaws. Leads projects as assigned. Assumes responsibility for the department in the absence of Director.
  • Plans, implements and manages unit activities to effectively and efficiently provide quality Rehab and patient care services. Manages day-to-day operations/problem solving and implements new or revised programs and/or services. Responsible for ensuring unit work is completed in a manner that is accurate and timely. Ensures appropriate treatment programs are planned, implemented and modified as needed for each patient based upon on-going assessments and according to the assigned specialty area(s). Ensures required documentation is completed thoroughly, accurately, and in a timely manner. Ensures that staff works in collaboration with other disciplines, physician, health care team members, and external healthcare organizations for hospitalization needs according to patient plan of care. Supervises the financial resources of assigned areas of responsibility. Monitors operating revenues and expenses, administers established cost control program, monitors budget variances and reports significant variances to the Director. Makes changes and recommendations as needed to enhance/improve services and efficiency in operations.
  • Monitors the documentation of required information in patient records according to hospital policies and procedures and Rehab standards of practice. Ensure the processing of new patient referrals and authorizations have been obtained when appropriate. Ensure that patient information is entered and updated into computer correctly (i.e. demographic, treatment/service provided, and other clinical documentation as required). Maintains accurate charge capture for services provided and effectively allocates resources to meet department needs. Ensures billing discrepancies are resolved to avoid delay in patient billing. Ensures that patients are scheduled for treatment and registered appropriately.
  • Plans work schedules, assigns work and monitors workflow to provide adequate Rehab services at all times through individual or cooperative activities. Effectively makes work assignments, delegates responsibilities, sets priorities and redirects employees to other tasks as the need arises. Audits work of staff to ensure quality in all job duties. Ensures staff meets daily and monthly productivity levels.
  • Confers and works collaboratively with Rehab/medical/hospital staff in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction to coordinate and implement activities, to obtain information, answer inquiries and resolve problems regarding Rehab services.
  • Performs Rehab services as required and within specialty area. Assesses patient needs and develops and implements Rehab plan of care according to appropriate for the patients' conditions and consistent with patient care policies and procedures, demonstrated competencies, and with consideration given to risk management, infection control practices and patient safety practices.
  • Implements and monitors system measurements to ensure delivery of quality patient care. Makes rounds and provides managerial presence to ensure planned or required care is being provided to patients. Ensures unit compliance with joint commission standards for rehab care, hospital policies and procedures, compliance/performance improvement, safety, infection control, and other regulatory requirements. Coaches staff in the resolution of problems and utilization of resources in implementing Rehab services. Ensures resource materials are available. Updates and maintains a written unit specific QA plan. Collects data and reports to unit QA results with a written plan. Ensures that staff understands and is involved with implementation and evaluation of unit based QA plan. Provides leadership in the development and evaluation of standards of care. Utilizes manual and automated information systems to improve efficiency and effect productivity.
  • Compiles, prepares and maintains records, reports and files for administrative and compliance purposes. Utilizes computer and information systems to enter, format data and generates statistics, computations, tables, charts and graphs. Utilizes analytic skills and statistical analysis to aggregate data to assist with the identification of potential problems and patterns, trends, establish priorities and recommend improvement activities. Reports trends in data which reflect system issues, establishes priorities and recommends improvement activities to Director and/or other responsible parties.
  • Supervises, develops and motivates direct reports to ensure that a capable, productive staff exists within Rehab services. Selects, orients, trains and develops staff to meet requirements set forth in department plan treating rehabilitative patients with physical or mental disease or injury in accordance with established organizational policies, procedures and bylaws, billing requirements, and other regulatory/legal requirements. Develops staff competencies to meet job requirements. Provides in-services and training opportunities for staff. Supports staff in development and implementation of their individualized professional development plans. Evaluates performance and initiates corrective action as required. Fosters a safe environment for staff to expand in their application of care practices, teamwork skills and accountability for organizational goals.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organizational policies in processing and releasing patient information (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies).
  • Assists in the preparation of operating budget and is responsible for adherence to approved budget. Utilizes defined procedures to allocate resources such as FTEs, supplies and inventory. Monitors performance of support staff in the ordering, inventory, cleaning and maintenance of equipment for the department. Communicate with vendors concerning equipment as necessary.
  • Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements to maintain knowledge of best practices, current trends and developments in Rehab and patient care services. Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit based performance improvement activities. Maintains clinical competence commensurate to areas of responsibility. Attends in-services, educational programs, conferences and other meetings as required. Supports the organization's Performance Improvement initiatives. Participates in activities both unit-based and hospital-wide to maintain or improve quality of patient care. Assists with development and implementation of plan. Completes assigned monitors and adheres to standards of practice. Utilizes quality indicators to improve clinical practices.
  • Coordinates and integrates Rehab services with other disciplines to maximize overall effectiveness of the department.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Rehab field such as Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology or Audiology. Required and
  • Master's Degree Preferred
  • Qualified by education, training, or experience to work with the neonate, Infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric patient population as assignment dictates Required
  • Current license to work in State of TN Upon Hire Required
  • Minimum 4 years experience Forty-eight (48) months progressive clinical experience Required and
  • Minimum 1 year experience One (1) year in a leadership role Required
