Assistant Athletic Director
Under general supervision, assists the school Athletic Director in the management, coordination, and administration of the extracurricular interscholastic and intramural athletic programs at the designated school. Ensures that athletic activities promote skill development, sportsmanship, and student engagement, while maintaining compliance with state regulations, District policies, and school procedures.
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree required. South Carolina Professional Teacher Certification appropriate for the position and grade level preferred. Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license or government issued picture ID. Three (3) years of experience as a coach and previous experience as a head coach preferred; current District employee required; or any equivalent education, training, and certification requirements that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge of state and federal laws, South Carolina interscholastic sports rules, District policies, and school procedures applicable to extracurricular interscholastic and intramural athletics programs. Knowledge of best practices in the implementation of high quality athletic programs, including but not limited to the development of student athletes, optimal conditioning and training methods, application of rules and regulations of various sports, and appropriate equipment maintenance. Proficient knowledge of District and school safety initiatives, security procedures, and injury/emergency protocols. Knowledge of the proper maintenance of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily athletic activities. Knowledge and use of computer applications relevant to the position.
Skill in assisting the implementation of effective extracurricular interscholastic and intramural initiatives, aligning resources, and engaging multiple stakeholders, including District and school staff, to achieve strategic objectives and prioritize the safety and well-being of student athletes. Ability to assist in the continual improvement of the athletic program by mentoring and developing coaches and players as leaders; ability to promote a shared vision for high-quality student athletic programs that align with District goals and inspire commitment to student success. Proven ability to collaborate with school staff, students, parents, and community partners to support the school athletic program. Ability to communicate effectively with athletes, parents, staff, and community partners, in both oral and written form. Ability to apply judgment and complex logic in defining problems; collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data; creating reports; and drawing valid conclusions. Ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences, including school personnel and District staff in oral and written form. Ability to make presentations to large groups. Ability to maintain high standards of organization, accuracy, and timeliness in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and initiate proper and acceptable direction for the completion of work with little to no supervision and instruction. Ability to manage frequent interruptions in a flexible manner and difficult, stressful situations in a professional and appropriate fashion. Assists in the design, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of school-wide extracurricular intramural and interscholastic athletic programs. Assists in the coordination of research-based best practices with state mandates to support high-quality programs that improve the development of student athletes. Assists with the alignment of all procedures with the District's philosophy, mission, values, and goals. Assists in the maintenance and updates of procedures manuals for all athletic activities, including but not limited to applicable District procedures, appropriate state-mandated rules, regulations governing the eligibility of players, coaches and player conduct, safety and injury protocols, use of facilities, fundraising, etc. Assists in verifying the compliance of school sports programs with Board policies, the District Athletic Staff Operations Manual, state mandates, and affiliated conferences and regions. Assists in regularly scheduled reviews of District policies, rules, procedures, and requirements with all staff. Supervises all assigned coaches and volunteers. Assists with scheduling of practices and games, coordination among sports, use of facilities, travel logistics, etc., related to the school athletics programs. Assists with all eligibility verification procedures to ensure compliance with state regulations, legal mandates, and District policies. Ensures athletes comply with eligibility requirements for participation, including but not limited to academic and residency requirements; secures eligibility verifications for all assigned athletes. Maintains accurate, up-to-date records of assigned sports, including but not limited to scores, results, statistics, award winners, athletic scholarships, etc. Assists in planning recognition ceremonies as appropriate. Makes recommendations for yearly athletic budgets. Assists with maintenance of uniforms, equipment, and supplies; arrangements for transportation, meals, etc. Assists in scheduling adequate staffing of officials, security personnel, event and concession workers, etc., to provide appropriate supervision and efficient operation of all events. Assists in the administration of the insurance program for student athletes; collaborates with the school athletic trainer to process injury reports and claims. Assists the Athletic Director in the interviewing and hiring process for volunteers, assistant coaches, and head coaches, as requested. Assists in the orientation process for newly hired staff. Assists the coaching staff with appropriate professional development opportunities to encourage their professional growth and expertise. Assists in determining performance goals to evaluate coaches and to promote assistant coaches to head coaching positions. Promptly reports incidents or concerns such as fights, suspected alcohol or substance abuse, possession of weapons, student or other health/safety concerns, etc., adhering to appropriate policies and procedures. Promptly reports suspected instances of child abuse and/or neglect as required by applicable South Carolina laws, District policies, and school procedures. Stays abreast of current best practices in school athletic programs. Provides for his/her own professional growth and regulation compliance through an ongoing program of reading, seminars, conferences, and/or course work. Establishes a professional rapport with students, parents, and staff that fosters their respect. Displays the highest standards for ethical and professional behavior while working with students, parents, school personnel, District staff, community members, and other parties. Adheres to the highest standards of confidentiality concerning sensitive matters, students, and staff. Serves as a role model for others; dresses appropriately for the position; willingly accepts responsibility; and demonstrates pride in the public education profession. Demonstrates prompt, regular attendance and is available to work in-person on-site during normal business hours. Available to work in an eLearning setting as required by the District. Provides supervision at athletic events during school and after school hours according to a District/school established schedule; remains available to athletes, coaches, and the public while in attendance. Willingly performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Understands and adequately manages stressful situations. Additional Work Conditions and Physical Abilities: Regular local/state travel required. Occasional overnight travel required to provide appropriate supervision of athletic teams and players. Reliable transportation required.
