The Allen Institute for Neural Dynamics is focused on making fundamental discoveries in systems neuroscience. We are interested in how the brain builds our understanding of the complex world to guide the flexible behaviors. The answers will be in terms of defined neuron types and circuits. Employing a team-based approach for discovery neuroscience, we strive to uncover the neural basis of behavior through technological innovation, cutting-edge experiments, modeling, and theory.

The Allen Institute for Neural Dynamics is seeking an Associate Scientific Project and Alliance Manager. This individual will support ground-breaking projects, in collaboration with the Allen Institute of Brain Science and partners across the world. The Associate Scientific Project and Alliance Manager will provide the operational structure necessary for a multi-disciplinary, international team to drive discoveries based on mapping brain-wide neural circuits using cutting-edge optical imaging, neurophysiology and behavior.

Essential Functions

• Serve as the Project Manager to ensure the successful execution of the projects
• Work with Project Coordinators to support the scientific and dissemination goals of the projects
• Create, maintain, and disseminate project deliverables and timelines, using project management best practices and tools
• Provide an efficient and flexible collaborative environment to manage internal and external project team communication and collaboration
• Contribute to fiscal management of the project
• Enable communication between project stakeholders
• Work with science leads to organize external project reviews
• Partner with scientific staff to develop applications for external funding
• Facilitate efficient communication between scientific and administrative groups
• Work with the Scientific Program team to develop project management best practices

Required Education And Experience

• Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of degree and experience
• 3 years of project coordination experience in a scientific or technical environment, OR 2 years' at the Project Coordinator III level within the Allen Institute

Preferred Education And Experience

• PhD in biology, neuroscience, biomedical science or related field
• Experience in the use of project management, collaboration management, communication, and dashboard/reporting tools
• Formal project management training and/or PMP certification
• Experience navigating complex group dynamics, and working with scientific, engineering and administrative stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to multitask amongst multiple projects simultaneously
• Advanced ability to translate scientific and technical subject matter into concise, clear communications that are understood by technical and non-technical leaders and constituents
• Working knowledge in neuroscience, in vivo neurophysiology, databases, Python programming
• Experience with federal/private funding agencies and scientific alliance management

Physical Demands

• Fine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipment; repetitive motion with lab equipment

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work

• This role is currently working onsite and is expected to work onsite for the majority of working hours. The primary work location for this role is 615 Westlake Ave N., with flexibility to work remotely on a limited basis. We are a Washington State employer; any remote work must be performed in Washington State.

Travel

• Attendance and participation in national and/or international conferences may be required

Annualized Salary Range

• $104,050 - $128,700 *

* Final salary depends on required education for the role, experience, and level of skills relevant to the role, along with work location, where applicable.
