Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. EHS Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with federal OSHA and California OSHA (Cal/OSHA) regulations.
    • Stay updated with Federal OSHA, Cal/OSHA and any other California-specific EHS laws and requirements.
  2. Policy Development and Implementation:
    • Design, develop, and implement EHS policies, procedures, and guidelines that align with corporate standards while addressing site-specific operational requirements.
    • Translate corporate EHS policy frameworks into actionable site-level procedures, ensuring consistent implementation and adherence across all locations.
    • Conduct periodic reviews of policies and procedures to ensure alignment with evolving corporate directives, regulatory changes, and site-level operational needs.
  3. Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
    • Identify and assess potential hazards and risks in multiple facilities.
    • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks and enhance safety.
  4. Training and Education:
    • Design and implement comprehensive EHS training programs grounded in corporate policies and customized to meet site-specific conditions, workflows, and California regulatory requirements.
    • Monitor and track associate training compliance at facilities you provide EHS support.
    • Foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility by promoting open communication with associates, site managers, and stakeholders.
  5. Incident Response and Investigation:
    • Develop and lead incident response plans for facilities you provide EHS support.
    • Conduct thorough investigations of accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents as per OSHA and Cal/OSHA requirements.
  6. Environmental Sustainability:
    • Promote sustainable practices in accordance with California's environmental regulations.
    • Monitor and report on environmental performance metrics, including California-specific metrics.
  7. Audits and Inspections:
    • Conduct regular EHS audits and inspections at facilities you provide EHS support.
    • Oversee corrective actions to address audit findings.
  8. Emergency Preparedness:
    • Develop and test emergency response plans.
    • Ensure associates are trained in emergency procedures relevant to California.
  9. Data Management:
    • Maintain accurate records of EHS performance and incidents, complying with California reporting requirements.
    • Analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  10. Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reduction, and increased EHS performance.
    • Implement best practices across all sites.
  11. Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Build and maintain relationships with California regulatory agencies, local communities, and relevant stakeholders.
    • Represent the organization in EHS matters specific to California.

Other Job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

Education, Training and Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in Health, Safety and/or Environmental in a manufacturing setting.
  • Bachelor's degree in EHS, Industrial/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in conducting EHS related training.
  • Understanding of machine guarding requirements and applications.
  • Experience with chemical management and hazardous waste programs and requirements.
  • Experience with storm water management and compliance
  • Technologically savvy with experience in MS Office products and Windows-based computer applications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of applicable EHS standards and regulations (CAL/OSHA, OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Ability to influence and drive positive change.
  • Strong written and verbal presentation skills.
  • Clearly communicate sensitive matters with management and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize and balance multiple projects.
  • Ability to research and analyze information and draw valid conclusions and recommendations.
  • Desire to continually learn and expand knowledge base.
  • Ability to build professional relationships based on trust and mutual respect at every level of the organization.
  • Professional, enthusiastic and friendly demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associated Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
  • Experience within the steel industry.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Potential supervisory responsibility.

Additional

  • Must be able to work outside normal business hours/days as needed.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and or move objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in both hot and cold atmosphere depending on weather conditions.
  • Must be able to travel and work at an outside location.

Salary Range: $99,000 - $148,000 annually

Final compensation will depend on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications.
