Program/Project Coordinator, Senior (Environmental Policy And Legislative Program Coordinator)

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the Program/Project Coordinator, Senior (Environmental Policy and Legislative Program Coordinator) to support the Public Works & Environmental Services Department.

This is an advanced professional position supporting the County's environmental policy, resilience planning, and strategic energy initiatives. This position plays an important role serving as the lead environmental policy and legislative program coordinator for the Department. This position is responsible for the coordination and development of environmental policy recommendations, advocacy efforts, and implementation of related program initiatives in collaboration with internal, municipal and regional partners. The successful candidate will support county-wide and regional partnerships, including the County's engagement in the 4-County Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact. The successful candidate will also (1) perform high-profile management, communication, and research duties for County climate, resilience, energy, and water programs; (2) develop grant applications, oversee procurement, and manage diverse contract agreements with private sector, other governmental agencies, and non-profit partners; (3) support state and federal programmatic efforts and project partnership opportunities; (4) monitor evolving policy, legislation and regulations and develop advocacy plans; (5) participate, organize, convene, and staff various workgroups and committees; (6) serve as the Department's policy expert on energy conservation and alternative energy initiatives. Work requires interagency collaborations, independent research, project ownership, stakeholder engagement, and accountability. Work is reviewed through regular meetings, reports and assignments.

Additional information: Must have excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, and strong presentation skills. Must demonstrate strong personal initiative; enjoy working as a team; and have superior organizational skills. The preferred candidate will be familiar with climate pressures within the South Florida landscape, and relevant climate mitigation and adaptation policy and programs at state and federal levels. Strong familiarity with the state and federal legislative process, and knowledge of diverse environmental subjects is preferred, including knowledge in the areas of energy, water resources, and Everglades restoration. Must have experience in building relationships with public, private, and academic partners. Must excel at completing projects within assigned timeframes while planning for future objectives. Demonstrated experience with graphics, website content management, communication tools, social media, and other on-line platforms is preferred.

General description: Administers large-scale programs and/or projects that have County-wide impact. Works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Minimum education and experience requirements: Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in political science, public policy, environmental planning/science or closely related field. (One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.) Requires four (4) years of experience in a staff or administrative capacity managing special projects, programs or business operations appropriate to the area of assignment or closely related experience. Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment.

Preferences: 4+ years of experience in handling contracts/grant applications 4+ years of experience working with state/federal agencies. 4+ years of experience working with graphics, website/content management, communication tools, social media, and other online platforms.
