Job description

Director Of Career Technical Education

To provide effective supervision and direction for Career and Technical Education programs throughout the system.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Develop effective, contemporary, professional, and responsive programs to meet area economic and workforce needs.
  • Be an active participant in the system's career pathways program to support students in becoming prepared graduates.
  • Work with appropriate state agencies for approval and financial support of Career and Technical Education programs.
  • Plan, prepare, monitor, and evaluate all federal, state, and local financial budgets for Career and Technical Education.
  • Provide leadership in assuring that the facilities, equipment, and supplies for all Career and Technical Education programs meet industry standards through annual evaluations and long-range planning.
  • Supervise Career and Technical Education faculty in coordination with local school principals.
  • Serve as program content resource for local school administration and Career and Technical Education faculty.
  • Working with local school administrators, develop and implement a professional development plan that assures teachers meet or exceed training requirements and keep pace with technological advancements.
  • Work closely with teacher education institutions and state staff to develop effective programs at pre-service and in-service levels.
  • Observe teaching and operational practices in the Career and Technical classroom/labs.
  • Work with counselors to determine students' interest and aptitude for Career and Technical coursework.
  • Require and facilitate active Career and Technical student organizations.
  • Develop activities and techniques to involve the community in school activities.
  • Provide a system for positive public relations.
  • Collect, organize, analyze and interpret data concerning the performance of students.
  • Maintain an active system-wide advisory committee and assure its active role in the overall guidance of the Career and Technical programs of the school system.
  • Maintain an active relationship with the Region 3 Workforce Development Council.
  • Promote and facilitate Career and Technical Education among community stakeholders.
  • Represent the school system as directed at conferences, committee sessions, training seminars, Alabama State Department of Education meetings, and/or community meetings.
  • Participate successfully in training programs, professional development, or other learning to increase skill and proficiency related to job performance and leadership.
  • Demonstrate the ability to multi-task, delegate, and prioritize those tasks appropriately.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  • Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  • Model and maintain high ethical standards.
  • Respond to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  • Maintain and submit required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
  • Report absences and take leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
