Safety And Operations Job

This job is in the Safety and Operations job family, which covers positions supervising, leading, and/or performing work involving safety, health, and environmental issues anticipating, dealing with, eliminating, or controlling hazardous conditions, exposures, and practices. These hazards may result from human error, equipment, or machine operation and may lead to injuries or damage to property or the environment. They are responsible for and supervises the maintenance, care, and efficient operation of all equipment and facilities used by the organization. This position reports to the Operations or Production Manager.

Function in the Job: Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work.

Job Function:

  • Responsible for managing day-to-day safety operations, including collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Create and promote a strong safety culture through compliance, training, procedures, campaigns, etc.
  • Provides recommendations for purchases of new equipment taking safety into consideration.
  • Manages the analysis and interpretation of safety information through performance of cause evaluations.
  • Point of contact for on-site injuries, incidents and related safety processes.
  • Ensure compliance to all Corporate (Reliance) policies and procedures.
  • Conducts proper root cause investigation with corrective actions for injuries and incidents.
  • Develops and administers various safety plans and procedures for all company personnel.
  • Ensures safety drills plans are maintained and performed as applicable for Corporate, Federal, state, and/or local regulations.
  • Develops and manages required safety records, reports, and logs to conform to applicable Federal, state, and/or local regulations.
  • Develops expertise in regulatory reporting compliance, content and technical requirements.
  • Designs and distributes company-wide safety performance reports and dashboards.
  • Participates in developing safety goals, objectives, and systems, and recommends necessary changes.
  • Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continuous improvement in efficiency of safety operations and services performed and re-evaluates them for cost effectiveness.
  • Prepares, reviews, and follows up on monthly Safety Meetings.
  • Coordinates, reviews, and follows up on weekly safety walks with the Safety Committee.
  • Conducts daily reviews and follow-up of Toolbox reviews with the Safety Committee.
  • Conducts, schedules, and/or assigns all mandatory safety training(s) to employees as applicable for Corporate, Federal, state, and/or local regulations.
  • Assists the Operations Manager in maintaining safety cleaning and chemical disposal checklists.
  • Identifies safety trends within regions/companies and other indicators to improve overall safety performance.
  • Develops and delivers required annual safety training based on Federal, state, and/or company needs.
  • Responsible for helping instill a company-wide culture of safety by management engagement, coaching employees, and promoting commitment to employee safety.
  • Manages and prioritizes timely responses to ad hoc data requests.
  • Serves as subject matter expert in safety data reporting and analysis.
  • Leads, coaches, and mentors a team of safety professionals while managing resource allocation and staffing.
  • Responsible for adhering to safety processes and protocols.

Required Skills:

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
  • High School diploma/GED required, Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Understanding of basic concepts and principles pertinent to raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective processing and distribution of material required.
  • Understanding of company product(s) and their uses required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and math skills required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions as applied to work situations required.
  • Efficient, well organized and detail oriented with a proven track record of problem-solving required.
  • The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations) required.
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including analysis, knowledge and experience, and judgment required.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers as well as internal/external customers required.
  • Strong computer proficiency and working knowledge of software applications and ERP systems required.

Compensation Range: The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $70,000.00/Yr. - USD $90,000.00/Yr. depending on experience, qualifications, and location.
