Job description

Job Title

Contributes to a vibrant campus life by developing student leaders, facilitating programs, and providing resources to support and engage students. Plays a pivotal role in advancing the mission of the Office of the Dean of Students and Student Affairs by designing, coordinating, and implementing comprehensive student engagement programs, services, and activities across the college life cycle. Ensures projects and programs align with the University's strategic plan and campus master plan. Leads efforts to manage risk within student organizations, fraternity & sorority life, and the broader university community. Develops and manages the departmental budget, collaborates with on and off-campus constituencies and leads campus initiatives that impact the student experience. Shares in developing departmental goals and contributes to internal professional development, assessment, and planning initiatives, and supervision of assigned staff.

Job Duties:

  • Directs and oversees a broad array of programs and campus traditions. Develops, implements, assesses, and evaluates current programs, projects, as well as future programming and projects within Student Engagement. Creates and facilitates opportunities for co-curricular learning, engagement, and student leadership development. Provides consultation and support to various organizations, student groups, and their advisors. Interprets university rules/regulations governing student organizations. Oversees departmental budget exceeding $53,000, and indirect oversight of Student Programming Board and Greek Council budget of nearly $220,000.
  • Chairs the Campus Events Committee to ensure coordination for events and activities across campus. Develops and oversees the administration of policies and procedures, including comprehensive risk management approaches for student activities, organizations, and programs. Collaborates and oversees partnerships with cross-functional departments to build and sustain a positive campus climate. Leads and coordinates responses to expressive activities with Student Affairs leadership. Partners with Alumni Relations & Development, Risk Management, Academic Affairs, and others to support campus-wide engagement strategies.
  • Directs, coordinates, and evaluates employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with all policies and applicable laws. Interviews, hires and trains employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; creates work schedules and conducts performance appraisals, counsels and disciplines employees; and addresses complaints and resolves problems. Provides department professional development, assessment, goal setting, budgeting, and planning initiatives. Provides indirect supervision of the affiliated University-Sponsored Organizations.
  • Responsible for leading the coordination of integrated efforts for hazing prevention. Serves as a member of appropriate committees, partnering with stakeholders to update policies, and collaborating across Student Affairs, Athletics, Academic Affairs, and other parties. Leads training efforts on hazing with multiple stakeholders.
  • On an annual basis, facilitates the review of relevant student organization policies, including the Student Organization Handbook and Adviser's Manual. Supports continued implementation and use of Customer Relationship Management platforms that enable the collection of student organization rosters, annual registration, and event information forms, among other features.

Additional Duties:

  • Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality and interacts with confidence, patience, and integrity to provide professional leadership during emergencies.
  • Collaborates with other Student Affairs staff and participates in the life of the University by serving on committees, attending functions, and being available for special assignments.
  • Serves as a member of the Dean on call rotation.
  • Complies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Student Personnel/Student Affairs or related field from an accredited institution.

Experience:

  • Required: Five years of progressively responsible experience in student services, leadership development, student programming or related functional area.
  • Student affairs experience in advising, training, leadership education, counseling and student programming.
  • Experience creating successful student engagement and development programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and customer service.
  • Knowledge of student development theories and student leadership theories.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to problem solve and think critically.
