Job description

Radiology Director

The director has responsibility of radiology services at Toledo Hospital, including the resource pool, and any other department(s) or service(s) that may be periodically assigned. He/she designs, directs, and implements processes to measure, assess, and improve the performance of hospital and systemwide functions and departments as assigned. Additionally, the position partners with radiology providers to assess operational processes, enhancements for improvement and efficiency, and leads the development of new techniques, services, and programs that will improve employee, patient and, physician satisfaction, in support of the organization's mission. Under the direction of the Vice President of Operations, System Radiology, will collaborate with senior leadership members in monitoring, recommending and implementing plans for improving efficiency, decreasing expenses and improving satisfaction scores.

Accountabilities include:

  • Planning, organizing and directing all professional and programmatic activities in accordance with professional, regulatory, and accrediting standards in alignment with the ProMedica mission, goals and values.
  • Supervising personnel in multiple departments and locations as well as oversight of hospital(s) and system wide functions.
  • Monitoring and managing radiology physician groups, respiratory, and sleep medical directors and vendor contracts.
  • Monitoring and managing university and/or community college academic agreements in place for radiology.
  • Serving as Radiation Safety Committee chair for Toledo Hospital and other hospitals assigned.
  • Participating with recommendations of nursing practice guidelines, policies and procedures that align with ProMedica's professional practice model and evidence based practices.
  • Ensuring facilitation, implementation and monitoring of clinical and safety performance standards. Establishing a formal means of accountability for those to whom the duties are assigned.
  • Coordinating and integrating interdepartmental and intradepartmental services with an emphasis on teamwork, cooperation and customer service.
  • Ensuring that performance improvement activities are implemented in areas of responsibility.
  • Actively participating in and with the governing body, hospital leadership, and medical staff in the hospital's decision making structures and processes.
  • Monitoring operating budgets and operating efficiency of applicable departments. Recommending and implementing changes to comply with budget and standards.
  • Participating in planning and implementation of strategic planning.
  • Approving, monitoring and maintaining direct reports' accountability for operating budgets.
  • Ensuring a sufficient number of qualified, competent staff based on patient and procedure volume trends in alignment with operating budget guidelines.
  • Serving as a role model by exhibiting positive customer service behavior.
  • Reinforcing good customer behaviors among employees.
  • Maintaining excellent relationships and on-going communication with various matrixed services, service lines, system departments, as well as related business units.
  • Supporting the effective operations for hospital facilities, off-site locations and acute care sites.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications include:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required. Candidate must be actively pursuing a master's degree, with successful completion required within two years of appointment to the position.
  • Skills: Excellent understanding of the functions of various hospital departments, policies and procedures, budgeting process and analysis of financial data. Knowledge of Joint Commission, OSHA regulations as they pertain to infection control, Ohio and Michigan Department of Health, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Medicare/Hospital Conditions of Participation, and ability to understand and interpret federal and state regulations needed either through education or experience. Requires excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with all levels of employees, senior leaders, physicians, and community stakeholders. Possesses strong leadership and analytical skills with demonstrated outcomes and experience. Demonstrated ability to plan, lead, facilitate, negotiate, and manage people and projects through change and consensus building.
  • Years of Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience.
  • License: ARRT, CNMT, ARDMS, etc ; Active ODH licensure
  • Certification: BLS

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Education: Masters degree in healthcare administration, healthcare leadership, business.
  • Years of Experience: 5-10 years of progressive leadership; prior experience as a Radiology Director.
  • License: Certified Radiology Administrator/CRA strongly preferred.
  • Certification: BLS
