Job description

Director Engineering & Maintenance

The Director of Engineering & Maintenance leads the strategy and execution of asset reliability, maintenance excellence, and capital investment across Barr Brands' global manufacturing network. This is a critical leadership role responsible for strengthening plant-level operations while building the systems, processes, and capabilities that support long-term growth.

The Director will partner closely with Supply Chain and Operations leadership to improve uptime, optimize asset performance, and ensure capital investments are aligned to business priorities. Operating within an employee-owned (ESOP) environment, this leader will play a key role in reinforcing a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement across all manufacturing facilities. Success in this role will be defined by measurable improvements in reliability, uptime, and capital effectiveness across the network.

Asset Reliability & Maintenance Excellence

  • Lead the development and deployment of standardized maintenance practices across all facilities, including preventive and predictive maintenance programs
  • Drive measurable improvements in uptime, equipment reliability, and asset utilization, with a focus on reducing downtime and improving overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to assess performance, identify gaps, and prioritize improvement efforts
  • Champion reliability-centered maintenance and continuous improvement methodologies, including TPM principles

Capital Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and execute a multi-year capital plan aligned to business strategy and operational needs
  • Lead end-to-end project execution, including scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, and commissioning utilizing a stage gate process for early equipment management
  • Partner with Finance and Operations to ensure disciplined investment decisions and strong return on capital

Systems & Infrastructure

  • Optimize and standardize CMMS utilization across sites to support effective maintenance planning and asset management
  • Implement tools and processes that enable data-driven decision making and asset lifecycle management
  • Establish consistent reporting and visibility into asset performance across the network

Leadership & Capability Building

  • Build and develop engineering and maintenance capability across sites, strengthening both technical and leadership skills
  • Partner with plant leaders to drive accountability, alignment, and execution at the local level
  • Lead change initiatives that improve consistency, elevate standards, and embed a culture of ownership and continuous improvement
  • Influence and align cross-functional stakeholders to drive consistent execution across sites

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing engineering and maintenance leadership, including multi-site responsibility
  • Proven track record of improving asset reliability, uptime, and maintenance effectiveness in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience leading capital planning and executing complex projects from concept through commissioning utilizing a stage gate process
  • Strong knowledge of TPM- specifically Planned Maintenance and Early Equipment Management, CMMS systems, and reliability-centered maintenance practices
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, align senior cross-functional stakeholders, and drive change across a multi-site manufacturing environment
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to connect engineering decisions to operational and financial outcomes

Work Environment / Physical Demands / Travel:

  • Role will work in both manufacturing and office environments
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, climb, stoop, talk, hear, and see and ability for hand/wrist use for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret regulatory reports, policies, standards, government regulations, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond verbally and in writing to common inquiries or complaints from executive and management employees, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community; ability to effectively present information to top management or employee groups.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Some travel may be required.
