Nurse Manager, Emergency Department
The Nurse Manager for the Emergency Department assumes 24-hour responsibility for overall assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. The Nurse Manager's responsibilities include oversight and direction for the emergency department and accountability for planning, directing, leading, and evaluating nursing care within the department. This role requires fostering an environment of collaboration and respect with all other healthcare team members. Weekend and holiday coverage as needed is also a responsibility of the role. The Nurse Manager performs related duties as required.
Operational Performance: Develop long-term unit staffing schedules. Ensure adequate daily coverage according to established staffing needs. Develop measures and monitor unit operational performance metrics, including agency and overtime costs, vacancy, and turnover rates. Oversee the daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training, and development of employees within the department. Be responsible for ongoing quality and performance improvement processes related to the emergency department. Promote and support a collaborative team approach in providing care for all ED and trauma patients. Approach others in a tactful manner and treat all with respect and consideration. Support and interpret policies, procedures, and objectives of the organization. Monitor customer satisfaction scores and implement plans to improve scores. Monitor patient volume, quality of care, and staff performance to identify areas for improvement. Maintain a departmental dashboard with information and progress on people, service, quality, and leadership. Investigate patient, physician, and staff complaints or concerns and work to resolve them. Maintain required competencies for self and all employees within the department. Participate in a professional organization.
Clinical Practice/Patient Care: Collaborate with nursing leadership to establish nursing care standards and evaluate staff compliance. Identify protocols affecting the patient population served and keep nursing staff informed. Demonstrate self-development and remain current on various clinical management and healthcare topics. Maintain a safe and caring environment for patients, families, and staff conducive to positive health teaching and maintenance. Ensure equal access to treatment for all persons in need.
Management: Participate in the overall planning process for the service. Conduct monthly meetings with staff to address equipment, scheduling, goals and objectives, performance metrics, and improvement activities.
Human Resource Development/Management: Educate and evaluate staff. Work with nursing leadership to counsel, discipline, and terminate staff as needed. Create and maintain an atmosphere of respect and courtesy toward patients, staff, and colleagues.
Minimum of five (5) years nursing experience in management and/or supervisory role in the Emergency Department. License: Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse. Certifications: BLS, ACLS, & PALS. Must-Have: Master's Degree in Nursing; 1 year of EPIC experience; Emergency Department experience.
Duration: 13 months Shift: Evening Hours per Shift: 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM
