The BOSS MS POD Instructor will deliver high-quality instruction in a blended learning environment for high school students. This role combines traditional classroom teaching with online learning methodologies to enhance student engagement and academic success. The teacher will work collaboratively with other educators, support staff, and students to develop and implement effective instructional strategies.

  • Develops intentional and effective lesson plans that incorporate diverse teaching strategies and optimize student engagement.

  • Analyzes student records to gain insights into individual abilities and needs while ensuring the maintenance of accurate and comprehensive student documentation.

  • Integrates a variety of learning modalities into each lesson, employing differentiated instruction tailored to diverse student needs.
  • Conducts frequent diagnostic assessments to evaluate student learning and maintains accurate and complete records.
  • Regularly assesses student strengths and weaknesses, providing targeted activities to address their needs and generating required progress reports.
  • Refers students with potential learning challenges to the appropriate support services; assigns and evaluates lessons and student presentations.
  • Organizes class field trips as necessary.
  • Prepares students for state-mandated achievement assessments.
  • Remains informed about subject matter and educational theories, sharing insights to improve the school's curriculum continuously.
  • Contributes to the ongoing curriculum development process, including revising course materials and selecting instructional resources.
  • Familiarizes oneself with supplemental services that enhance student learning beyond regular classroom activities.

Create a Learning-Conducive Environment

  • Establishes a virtual classroom environment that fosters learning and is suited to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Builds positive relationships with students, demonstrating patience and support to facilitate their growth.
  • Ensures the virtual classroom is organized, safe, and showcases student work appropriately. Enforces relevant policies regarding student behavior.
  • Develops clear and reasonable rules for virtual classroom conduct in line with organizational guidelines, maintaining order in a consistent and fair manner.

Instructional Planning

  • Develops lesson plans that align with established educational guidelines and goals.
  • Designs individual and group learning activities that cater to instructional objectives and student needs using appropriate technologies.
  • Prepares thoroughly for assigned classes and provides evidence of preparation upon request from supervisory personnel.
  • Collaborates with colleagues during designated curriculum planning meetings.
  • Integrates all necessary diagnostic information required in each student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) into lesson planning.
  • Takes necessary precautions to safeguard supplies, equipment, and materials essential for effective instructional delivery.

School/Community Relations

  • Aims to cultivate cooperative relationships and communicates effectively with parents/guardians when needed.
  • Maintains clear, consistent, and positive communication with parents using appropriate channels. Collaborates with administration and fellow staff members.
  • Upholds confidentiality regarding student records and engages in parent communication initiatives.
  • Participates in extracurricular activities to promote a positive school culture and support both students and staff as required.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred.

Valid teaching certification in the subject area and grade level.

Experience with blended learning models and instructional technology.

Strong understanding of middle and/or high school curriculum and assessment practices. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Ability to adapt instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.

Job Requirements

Experience: Previous experience in virtual teaching or online education environments is highly desirable, showcasing the ability to engage students effectively.

Technical Skills: Demonstrated proficiency with various educational technologies, including learning management systems (LMS), video conferencing tools, and online assessment platforms.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with students, parents, and colleagues.

Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to build rapport with students and create an inclusive and supportive virtual learning environment.

Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple classes, track student progress, and meet deadlines.

Professional Development: Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with educational best practices and technology advancements.

Best Practices for Virtual Classroom Management:

Set Clear Expectations: Begin with clearly defined rules and procedures for behavior and participation in the virtual classroom. Share these with students at the start of the course and revisit them regularly.

Engage Students Actively: Use interactive activities, discussions, and multimedia resources to keep students engaged. Incorporate polls, quizzes, and breakout rooms to encourage participation.

Establish a Routine: Create a consistent schedule for classes, so students know what to expect. This helps build a sense of stability and encourages regular attendance.

Utilize Technology Effectively: Familiarize yourself with the tools available on your learning management system (LMS). Use features like chat, screen sharing, and virtual whiteboards to enhance interaction.

Monitor Student Participation: Keep an eye on student engagement levels during lessons. Use tools that allow you to see who is participating and who may need additional encouragement.

Provide Timely Feedback: Regularly assess student work and provide constructive feedback. This helps students understand their progress and areas for improvement.

Create a Supportive Environment: Foster a positive atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their thoughts. Encourage collaboration and respect among peers.

Effective Communication with Parents in an Online Setting:

Regular Updates: Send consistent updates about student progress, assignments, and important dates through emails or a designated communication platform.

Utilize Virtual Meetings: Organize video conferences or one-on-one meetings to discuss student performance and address any concerns. This personal touch can strengthen relationships.

Encourage Open Dialogue: Invite parents to share their insights and feedback. Create an open line of communication where they feel comfortable reaching out with questions or issues.

Provide Resources: Share resources and tools that parents can use to support their children's learning at home. This could include guides on how to use the LMS or educational websites.

Tools to Enhance Virtual Learning Experiences:

Learning Management Systems (LMS): Platforms like Google Classroom, Canvas, or Schoology allow for organizing materials, assignments, and communication in one place.

Video Conferencing Tools: Applications like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Webex enable live interaction and virtual face-to-face meetings.

Work Environment

This position will be performed in a POD location site setting, incorporating both in-person and online instruction. The BOSS High School POD Instructors will collaborate with a team of educators and work closely with students in a supportive and innovative learning environment.

Physical Demands

A BOSS HS POD Instructor who works at a POD site daily faces a unique set of physical demands that combine traditional teaching responsibilities with the requirements of online instruction. This includes using computer-based technologies for extended periods of time. Standing, sitting, and walking are also required.

FLSA Overtime Category

Job is exempt from the minimum wage and overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
