Anaheim Public Utilities (APU) is seeking an experienced and strategic Utilities Warehouse and Logistics Manager to lead procurement and warehouse operations for Orange County's only municipal utility providing both electricity and water services to one of California's largest cities home to 350,000 residents, 20,000 businesses, and 25 million yearly visitors. This is a high-visibility leadership role that combines strategic procurement decision-making with hands-on operational oversight offering the right candidate a unique opportunity to shape strategic utility procurement practices, strengthen supply chain resilience, and build lasting operational improvements in a mission-driven public agency.
The Utilities Warehouse and Logistics Manager will provide vision and direction while overseeing a small procurement team and warehouse staff responsible for managing inventory, receiving, issuing, and staging equipment, and supporting field crews during callouts and emergencies. A significant dimension of this role is strategic utility procurement leadership including sourcing critical utility materials and equipment such as distribution transformers, cable, switches, and other electrical components working closely with key suppliers to strengthen procurement processes, improve inventory forecasting, and ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment essential to APU's electric and water operations. Equally important is the manager's responsibility for providing clear direction to warehouse staff, establishing and maintaining standard operating procedures, and fostering a safe and well-organized warehouse and yard environment. Collaboration with engineers, field and project managers, and senior management will be essential to anticipate and plan for long-lead items that are critical to the success of high-profile capital projects. This position works actively with various internal and external stakeholders, analyzes data and business intelligence, evaluates market dynamics including material availability and pricing, and presents actionable insights and metrics to senior and executive management.
The ideal candidate is a strategic leader who has demonstrated the ability to directly oversee and inspire staff, align teams around key operational and procurement goals, and drive meaningful results in a dynamic utility or public agency environment. Strong knowledge of and experience in procuring utility-related materials and equipment or equivalent depth in municipal procurement, public agency contracting, and competitive bidding requirements is highly desirable. A bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, public administration, or a related field is highly desirable, as are professional certifications such as CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management), CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager), CPIM (Certification in Production and Inventory Management), CPCM, CCCM, or PMP (Project Management Professional).
