The primary purpose of this job is to investigate, evaluate, negotiate and settle assigned claims by collecting and analyzing data according to policy application and/or contract provisions. The position will have responsibility for decision making within their authority and work under the general direction from their manager.Responsibilities include:Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claimsAnalyzes coverage and communicates coverage positionsConducts, coordinates, and directs investigation into loss facts and extent of damagesDirects and monitors assignments to experts and outside counselEvaluates information on coverage, compensability, and medical management to determine the extent of insured's exposureSets reserves within authority or makes claim recommendations concerning reserve changes to managerFocus on driving claims to a resolution with a focus of returning the injured back to workEvaluate, negotiate and settle claim when appropriatePrepares reports by collecting and summarizing informationAdheres to Fair Claims Practices regulations and internal Claims Quality Performance ObjectivesParticipates in special projects or assists other team members as requestedAttend all state specific trainings as scheduledTravel to mediations, trials, and conferences as requiredRequirements include:Prior experience handling California workers' compensation claims is requiredExperience handling workers' compensation claims across multiple jurisdictions is a plus.Experience handling CA claims is required.Experience handling AZ/CO/UT claims is a plus.Must be able to obtain/maintain the required CA CEU hours to adjust CA claims.A degree in business related courses optional in exchange for experience in insurance.An insurance designation is a plus.Excellent written and oral communication skillsStrong analytical and problem solving skillsStrong organization and time management skillsAbility to deliver outstanding customer serviceStrong knowledge and understanding of medical terminology is a plus.Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word)Ability to work in a team environmentStrong desire for continuous improvementUS work authorization required. Markel does not provide visa sponsorship for this position, now or in the future.Pay information:The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors.
